BCCI does everything as a knee jerk reaction
by ashok pai on Aug 27, 2007 12:13 PM

they are hardly bothered about the cricket. whats wrong with another board. there's going to be some good competition. if bCCI threatens ICl drag them to court, sue BCCI. theyve had zero-accountability reign for too long.

Support ICL for the cause of cricket
by S Hegde on Aug 27, 2007 09:59 AM

As it's run by old cricketers who know what it is to be at the top of the game; and not run by fat, ugly face politicians who control BCCI for the money it has.
How pathetic it's to see a private body controlling and acting like police of the most popular sport of the most populous country. Time has come for more private parties to get in on the business of sports.

ICL giving BCCI a run for its money
by Padmanabhan S on Aug 25, 2007 10:13 PM

If the rider has no whip in his hand, the horse would not run. Now, the ICL rendered a few lashes and BCCI is running so fast that no one can even believe. BCCI is getting all innovative ideas now, like never before. Hitherto, it never did nor showed any such creative ideas like talent search. It could not even make use of the talent that existed, but, it is now going for talent search. It may of course mean that quota system is given a go-by. One has to agree that ICL is giving BCCI a run for its money

BCCI don't think we are fools that u love Indian Cricket.
by Francis Louis on Aug 25, 2007 03:27 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI was sleeping so long.

Suddenly, they have woken up from their SLEEP, after ICL has come into existance.

What they think we are all fools and they are the only wise men in INDIA.

APPEAL to all cricket lovers, denounce cricket promoted by BCCI, if BCCI does lift the ban on cricketers joining ICL and also withdraws the sacking of KAPIL PAJI.

BCCI is known for just make empty promises and then do nothing when conditions are calm. remember after world cup? all that chat about performance linked contracts and cap on endorsements, hiring CEO, professional selectors and may more?...all gone now and i dont think they have even started on any of them. so i think we should wait until BCCI actually builds new NCA, rather than promise to build new NCA and all other crap...that is why we need ICL or some tough competition to BCCI. as far as players goes, i think a country of 1 billion has enough to run both leagues.

True, Whether ICL succeeds or not, one thing it has done for sure is rattle BCCI out of sleep. Unless BCCI has full time paid office bearers who are held accountable nothing will change.

BCCI v ICL
by Umesh Srinivasan on Aug 25, 2007 02:22 PM

It's more like the days when we were bored to death with Doordarshan's coverage as there were no alternatives. Once private channels came into prominence DD had to change to be competetive. Same with BCCI now...ICL can only be for the betterment of Cricket in India and the sub-continent.

This is the case because so far there has not been viable alternative for us, the consumer. Cricketers have to compete and perform to earn their places through performance. The BCCI doesn't have to compete with anyone to earn its profits. In all other cricketing regions except the subcontinent cricket is only one out of several sports professionally run and hence cricket boards of those countries have to work very hard to keep consumers happy and keep their jobs. There has been so such alternative in India so far until now.

If the ICL is seen to have a long term vision and its tournaments provide quality cricket with world class spectator, player and TV facilities (far from what BCCI is bothering to do so far) nothing should stop the Indian consumer to switching to this product.

Long live ICL
by Supratik Ray on Aug 25, 2007 10:05 AM

This is what's going to happen with this latest announcement: absolutely nothing. No plans are going to be laid out and a year later when a BCCI official is questioned about it he is going to struggle to remember what the proposal actually was. There is no value in what anyone in the BCCI says and if you believe this latest impotent announcement you'll believe anything. Heard anything about endorsement caps, a coach and professional selectors lately? Any other professional sports organisation in the world would have implemented these processes within a matter of weeks.

No-one is denying that there isn't a sizeable profit motive behind the ICL, but where isn't there one in professional sport? Wanting to make money was never a crime. But any administration can't be worse than this 75 year old tried, tested and miserably failed excuse for a national sporting body known as the BCCI.

Note how everything the ICL has officially promised so far has come true. There's been a lot of rumours and counter rumours but through it all the ICL has been precise. It has stated a vision, it has been seen that the organisation has professionals working day and night to make that vision happen and slowly but surely they are revealing their outcomes step by step to the general public through the media - no ad-hoc announcements, no airing dirty laundry in public, no withdrawn statements. This is professionalism and this style of working is what is needed in Indian cricket.

BCCI should be dissolved and new neutral body of ex-cricketers should be formed
by Hiren Bhavsar on Aug 25, 2007 05:47 AM

they should dissolve BCCI and only ex cricketers with only 10 % enterprenurs should be kept in a new Cricket Board of India..call them CBI..hehe..
no politicians needed..
They should make 5 committees for talent hunt that would make a list of about 40 players talented enought to play for India A, B and national team..
Like Australia and New Zealand have a professional management who know cricket and ups and downs of cricket..
I dont think even ICL is good for cricket..they are also seeking the same thing that BCCI is doing..they need the money BCCI is making..
