leave sachin alone
by maddy on Mar 24, 2006 07:08 AM

As u all might b feeling that india is back on track once again. may b!! But all this credit goes to media. they are da one who gives a player tag of all-rounder and then they start asking question that is that player really deserve this tag. guess they shd better ask this question themselves.

talikng abt sachin , he played really well in pakistan during oneday internationals, and he played in his style(classic)so that means,he still can play, the way he used to play before. So for the god sake leave him alone and let him play his natural game. Stop talking abt him and let him concentrate. Look at his record, n he does\\\\\\\'nt has amnesia, so he still knows how to play.

Sachin-booers were right....really??

This is not Cricket

A stellar career of 16 years and you get this in return from fans and sports critics most of whom don't know what playing Cricket is at *any* recognizable level.

What can be more agonizing?

16 years of immense pressure, continuing performance of top quality. Let me remind the people of Mumbai, that in those 15 odd years before the Dhonis, the Yuvrajs, the Pathans and the Gangullys each and everyone of you had expectations, that one might have only from God, expectations that every time a certain stocky guy walked out to the center, be it with the bat or the ball, he will be the difference between a win and a loss, and he has been just that for so long

Doesn't the very "cricket savvy" Mumbai crowd remember the 1999 World cup, where in a certain game (which was supposed to be a cake walk), Tendulkar had to fly home to perform his Dad's last rights and Zimbabwe ran over the Indians, and from what I remember the whole nation prayed if not begged the "guy you booed" to return to try and salvage the campaign. And the greatness of the man, he did, played a World Cup match 2 days after his Father had passed on......just to cite one of the many instances exemplifying the way he has served the nation.....

Sure go ahead and boo him..after all he hasn't performed in the last 6 out of the 132 Tests he has played...right!!

Am I disappointed that he hasn't been playing at a level that is acceptable, sure I am. But there is a way of articulating your frustrations and disappointments, a way that is more civilized, a way that does not expose the volatile and fickle nature of India as a people ( and that my friends goes even beyond cricket...but I wont dwell into the socio-political gamut of India). Without that we might as well flush the mental and psychological evolution of man, down the drain, grab an axe and a hammer and go back to being barbarians and nomads. After all what are the differences between animals and humans.

(a) we use cutlery..

(b) we have the ability to think and act/react to situations in a more cerebral manner..

Indian Team's Decline
by Mohammed on Mar 24, 2006 03:14 AM

The loss to England in the third test levelled the series 1-1 and also indicated a point that Team India needs to seriously rethink their startegy for test matches as their performance in the last few series has been pathetic to say the least.

First of all it was a very bad decision by Rahul Dravid to bowl after winning the toss on a flat placid batting track, and the reason being three struggling seamers in the side.

Talkinb about the seamers, india do have options now but still we dont have bowlers who can get us 40 wickets in a match real quick. Odd good spells by our bowlers here and there is not going to help the cause. Pathan struggles on flat tracks where there is less movement off the track with his 120 kph speed. Sreesanth and Munaf are good but they lack experience.

Talking of our batsmen it has been a dismal show in the series, they should thank the lower middle order which saved the first match for them and almost the last one. Virender Shewag makes a odd 70-80 in 10 matches to retain his place, Tendulkar's career is coming to an end and he is clearly struggling. We have to give younger players like kaif and yuvraj more chances, especially kaif who is in great nick.

sachin tendulkar

I have been telling all my friends all along that sachin is an overrated player who does not win matches for india.I have never seen perform in clutch time.Granted he is talented but its winning that counts. All the media hype makes him out to be greater than he is and all that leads to is making him rich with endorsement money.

He reminds one of David Beckham-talented,all hype ,making millions out of endorsements without winning for their team. Its time he retired or the selectors shoul boot him out

How could you say that booing Sachin was right? That man is a legend who holds umpteen record in cricket for India. He may have paled in his performance today that doesn't give anybody the right to to boo him off the field. Would you have done the same if your son had failed in his exam? No you would'nt, you won't boo him but you will advise him, pray for him or critize him........but never boo him. be careful, all those who booed him, it might be your turn tommorow.................

This is unfortunate
by Rakesh Iyer on Mar 24, 2006 01:46 AM

A sports journolist supporting booing. Booing is reserved for unsportsmanlike behavior. And you have equated a persons bad form, a mistake to be equivalent to unsportsmanlike behavior. I think you subscribe to the mob mentality, and its really unfortunate that you do. No amount of booing can diss a great player in any sport and you shall see. If the Indian team doesnt need him, then they can remove him, who are you to ask his retirement?
If you beleive in the system of todays, than please respect it. God bless the mob, the Indian cricket watchers (fans would never boo)have become. Reminds me of the movie AI, and the mechas fighting..

Learn to stand by our heroes

Arvind, I think the media (or writers like you??) should stop acting emotional and treat cricket as a game. Yes, cricket is a religion in India and evokes emotion. But get some sense when trying to evaluate it. It isnt good reporting when you kill Team India everytime it loses a series (or draw it) or take it to euphorically excited when it wins a series. Aren't there anything between these two extremities? It hurts when you gave the marching orders to Sachin. It is inevitable that a sportsman or an athlete will go through a rough patch. That Sachin has consistenly avoided that for well over a period of 14 yrs has been a huge credit to the great man. And now, you want him to quit after one of those bad patches. Doesn't Sachin deserve a second chance after all the joy and happiness he has brought for the millions of us for over a decade? Doesnt the diginity, calmness and rich talent which inspired millions of Indians when we didnt have any heores deserve a second chance? Shame on you Arvind and shame on the Mumbai crowd. You disowned your most precious possession.

When will you guys start reporting in a mature way? Sania, Rathore beware...this would happen to you
