The Booing of Sachin is Disgraceful to Indian Cricket
by Naveen Reddy on Mar 24, 2006 11:29 AM

The Man who brought the charm and money to the Indian Cricket and who served his country for over 17 years, almost taking the burden of millions of fans all over the world single handedly and consistently. I think this is not the way to treat him. you wont find a single sports person who have performed so consistently at the highest level for so many years. At present you cannot find a player half of his talent in India who could perform as consistently as sachin. I dont think Mr. Aravind Lavakare is the right person to write the Cricket Columns. I request Rediff guys to stop publishing such columns from a person who doesn't understand the Cricket sport. As per the most of the past Cricketers none has said that he should quit. Everyone still feel that he can still play 3 to 4 years of International cricket. I request all the cricket lovers from all over the world to support this Legend in his bad time, since well wishers are the one's who support him during his bad times.

sachin booers were right
by warren on Mar 24, 2006 11:09 AM

yes they were right he deserves it,
this is not a shroddy treatment, well the board made it mandtory that performance of the players was the top priority for the selection in the any form of the game, why are they double standards applied on kumble who's bowling as well batting doing the talking compared to others , infact in the last 3 series Kumble averages more than sachin with the bat.
Mr tendulkar has never performend at crunch situtation, i would like to recall the great epic of Laxman's innings in kolkata, adelaide oval dravid's 233, to karachi's disater to the greatest of worst of Mumbai defeat, one should notice he runaway with crunch moments when required. well i dont know in what sense his a great batsman, Agreat Batsman or a Captain is called only people like Steven Waugh , Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Dravid whenever the team required them they stood out played for the team.
well the time has for the board to think proffesionally that performance is the top priority not the icons, since they form is temporary is class is permanment till they attain their form then it worth seeing their class.
thanks
warren

wankhede test
by rajesh on Mar 24, 2006 10:43 AM

It was a show completely unworthy of sachin we all know but still, wooing somebody of his stature was not correct.
If his performance has started showing age factor,we may leave him and politely close a golden chapter of history.
But, what about the fact that he was the highest scorer in the one of the two innings of the test. Why are we not going into the cricketing reasons for the defeat. What crecketing reasons we had for chosing to
bowl first when even a layman like me was aware of the importance of batting first on wankhede.Whoever has taken this decision, captain, coach or Team Manager, has to give public explaination After all,it is public who is spending lacs and crores of rupees on them to remain alert and fit and play well.

Sachin

The Indian cricket-loving public has unlimited tolerance for its non-performing heroes. If a cricketer has performed well in the past, they would tolerate him as long as he wants to stay in the team even if he stops performing. It is kind of like the pension scheme.

India would continue to be a mediocre team as long as there is no meritocracy does not govern selection. Seniority and experience should not count for anything if they do not result in performance.

Chappel's policy a failure in tests
by Anubrata Dutta on Mar 24, 2006 10:28 AM

I think greg's policy is not working in test cricket. To some extent, in one day cricket, you can get going with inexperienced players, but in tests, experience is very much required. And now, with the exprerienced Sehwag and Sachin failing repeatedly, the ONLY other experienced batsman we have is Dravid, rest are newcomers. But unfortunately, cricket isin't a one man show and i single batsman cannot bring us laurels. It is here that I think the decision of dropping Laxman and Saurav is dubious, as they have the required experience and talent, but their services are being rashfully ignored.

Another example of Frustation
by Raj on Mar 24, 2006 10:05 AM

This column looks like more of a frustration than any analysis on some basis. Its more of an emotional reaction. The major problem now is , we want a Bradman as a result of every match and we want one head falling after every match. for ex: Irfhan was like Gary Sobers till Yesterday and today he doesn't even fit to be a gully cricketer. The same thing happened for Sourabh and people are behind sachin now. May be Dravid , XXX are in line next. And only reason I find (The strange one if U observe) is people say they are earning more money by doing adds. Are we worried about the players not playing well or about their bank balance .

Time and again
by Truman on Mar 24, 2006 09:53 AM

Though I may agree with some points of the author, it is also worth pointing out that the Indian team which the author has maligned, time and again, so conveniently are esentially the same bunch of people who have given us wins in not so distant past, by playing innings of world class quality, against world class players. It is so easy to forget all that and focus on an individual loss of a game or even a series. This shortsightedness denotes that the author is still to grasp and overwhelm himself into the spirit of the game, a spirit which not only comes to action when we are winning but comes more in action when we loose.

Be patient, this team knows how to win. It's only a matter of time and a turnaround is impending.
