IS Dravid the right Choice?
by Raja Mohan on Oct 14, 2005 01:43 PM

It is difficult to analyze Dravid as captain for a couple of reasons. The statistics do not reflect some facts such as Dravid captaining only as stop gap option with out having opportunity to adjust to the team and build the same. Every player knew that Dravid was leading only on temporary basis during all their actions. Same is the case for Dravid's performance with Bat as a captain. It didnt give enough margin to adjust to new responsibility of leading side along with batting as he was not prepared and was asked to lead only in exceptions.

Now the question may be that, this is the case for any player who will get a few opportunities with in which he needs to prove. But it was not true in case of India. In India, most of the times Captains changed in one direction when there was no way the former captain could come back as captain. The exception was Azhar who came back after loosing the captaincy to Sachin.

That was the reason why many of vice captains of India like Madan lal, Kirmani, Shastri, Kumble were vice captains but there was no promise that they would be future captains.

Ideally Dravid must be given chance with clear indication that he is on trial as future captain.

Indian team needs Ganguly's captaincy
by Ashish Kumar on Oct 14, 2005 01:42 PM

I don't think Dravid is the right choice for Captaincy because he is not as aggressive as captain should be.A captain must have fighting ability against all odds.He should be like that, where other members can look upon at the time of crisis.

I think Ganguly should remain as the captain of the team insipte of his poor form.Form is temporary while skills are permanent. He is the one who has inculcated the killing spirit in the team.He inculcated the belief in Indian team that they can win against any team any where.

Now Cricket is not only the game of physical skills but also of mental strength which Ganguly had proved when the Australians visited India under the cap of Steve Waugh. That series was more the triumph of mental than anything else.

Indian team still needs his service not only as a player but also as a leader.

Regards

It is a well deserved/corect decision and long overdue.BCCI shoud not delay the action against the non performers as it demoralises performers as well as destroyes the reputation of country.

Rahul Not Suitable
by Sukalyan on Oct 14, 2005 01:32 PM

Rahul Dravid is absolutely not suitable for captaincy of Indian Team. I dont understand what wrong Ganguly has done. He is out of form fine...but is India loosing only because he is nt making runs?? What about other guys?? Compare the averages of all the players and picture will be clearer.... If at all captain needs to be changed then it must go to young and aggressive player like Yuvraj or Sehwag...even Irfan is a better choice... Dravid No Way.... when we lost to Pakistan Dravid was captain but ganguly was blamed.. we lost in srilanka Dravid was captain and ganguly was blamed...Thats Indian cricket for you !!!

Is Dravid the right choice ?
by Dr. K. Mallick on Oct 14, 2005 01:31 PM

Certainly, yes. There should be no doubts about it. The selection of Rahul as India captain is long overdue. He should have taken over immediately after the World Cup 2003.
The selection committee, in my humble opinion, has done more harm to Ganguly than good by retaining him as captain so long after repeated failures. BCCI and the Selection Committee should be held responsible for the disgraceful exit of good player, and owe apology to Ganguly and the cricket lovers in India !!

Dravid cannot be Good Captain like Ganguly!
by Ramani on Oct 14, 2005 01:29 PM

In my opinion, Dravid cannot be a great captain like Ganguly. Dravid, as we all know is THE WALL, but as a captain, he doesn't have the required leadership qualities and the aggressiveness Ganguly has in abundant. Ganguly gave good preference to both youngsters and seniors and he made them stand on one aim - winning for India. Dravid has a great style in batting and he always demonstrated the concentration, endurance and enthusiasm to play for India unlike Ganguly who is a bit lazy. But Ganguly is the tiger and Dravid cannot ever have the same aggressiveness.
