choked once again.
by Madhav on Aug 03, 2004 01:54 AM

For what cause SRT playing that slowest inning? He batted and the run rate required climbed from 4.x to 8.x at one stage. And people think he is a champion, little master match winner. A ral match winner is one who can win a match even in the company of the tail enders. SRT these days is just another Ravi shartri. Bat initially slow, let the asking rate climb. And then get out in faing to to increase the rscoring rate. If Zahir Kahn had little more balls to bat probably India might have won. Likes of Ifran and Zaheer are more dependable than SRT when it comes to winning the match. BTW How much runs did Viru score in the Asia Cup? , What was the highest opening partnership for India.? And there lies the answer for India's failure. These guys are from bottom 4 of the cricketing teams. It's media who try to image them amongst the best.

Well said...

all the Indian batsmen, with the exception of Tendulkar, had virtually no idea of how to bat. - Just a perfect statement.

And Yes, Sri Lankan Team was better than Ganguly's Squad (Sorry Sachin)

Ganguly should watch the video replay of Atapattu. That may give an idea, how to be a LEADER.

Jokers and Chokers
by spc on Aug 02, 2004 08:15 PM

It was expected. After all:

Once a choker are always chokers,
That's Ganguly's band of jokers.

I cannot believe we lost yet again
by jayashankar on Aug 02, 2004 07:52 PM

I was very shocked to hear the news that India lost to srilanka chasing a small target. Indian batting line up supposed to be the strongest in the world of cricket failed miserably. I am really not able to judge the Indian team. None of our batsmen except tendulkar applied the minds. It is a bad display of batting on a pitch where singles are very important. I am also surprised by the captaincy. when the pitches play very bad and is difficult for scoring, the pinch hitting option would have been the best choice. The tailenders should have been given the option after India lost two quick wickets. Harbhajan, zaheer,Irfan all should have been promoted up the order before laxman in the first fifteen overs. It would have been easier and even if they had not clicked, it would have given ample time for the quality batsman to have a look at the srilankan bowlers. as sachin was at the other end, i am sure atleast one of the pinch hitters would have come successful. I still feel that we dont have an astute coach and good thinking captaincy. Positive approach is of high importance. I rate Krish srikkanth is the best captain with innovative ideas so far i have seen. Presence of mind is reqd.

Indias lossssss
by pratik on Aug 02, 2004 07:35 PM

It was very stupid on part of ganguly to leave out Kumble , when we know premadasa is a nasty twisting wickett
& on top of it the 3 seamers just bowled 24 overss

& these days WHY no PINCH hitter
in the side

Yuvraj needs some practice for playing SPIN

& kaif needs to do more with the BAT

I feel relly sad for Tendulkar ,
when his career is comin to an END , he still hasnt won any big CUPS for MOther India

Take a hard look at the team composition
by Ranga on Aug 02, 2004 06:47 PM

Sehwag - wants to be a bowler; Tendulkar - always a good "warrior", however won us very few key games; VVS - try and work his game for test matches, need a younger player in his place; Ganguly - "nothing special about this guy"; Yuvraj and Kaif - should be dropped and competition to be brought back for this positions (they have assumed fixed slots in the lineup with limited contributions); Parthiv - Misfit for onedays; Dravid - Not sure!; Bowlers - performed well in this series, it was our fielding and batting that failed!!

India's poor record
by svwarty on Aug 02, 2004 06:44 PM

India's poor one day record is directly related to the imbalance in the team and Ganguly's insistence on not playing the best available eleven.
The batting order is wrong. Sehwag and Sachin have opened since the world cup without much success. I can hardly remember a good partnership between the two.
India should also play Patel regularly. He is a quick scoring bat and genuine WK. Laxman for all his talent does not fit into the first eleven -not quick in the field.
Kaif bats too low and the bowling with 3 leftarmers has limited variety.
Dravid should not keep wickets and will be 35 at the next world cup. Ganguly is now playing to keep himself in the team.
The ODI team in batting order should be: Ganguly, Sachin, Kaif, Yuvraj, Dravid, Sehwag, Patel, Pathan, Harbhajan, Kumble, Nehra.
Laxman can be reserve along with Zaheer. This is the batting order that will see India through consistently. Kaif and Yuvraj need more responsibility. Sehwag can slog at any number. A 35 ball 50 at no.6 is from Sehwag is better that a 8 ball 5!
With this order the team is better balanced and can score quickly, if it gets into trouble Dravid is at 5 to stabilize the batting and control the tail

Indian's should think more
by Jacob on Aug 02, 2004 06:07 PM

The game was difficult as the pitch was going slow towards the end, but for a team like india with a good batting line up it was not an impossible task. The only problem was with the attitude of the batsmen. Since the target was not high they palyed more defensive shots and that led to the fall of wickets. If the batsmen attacked the worst balls then it might be easy for indian to get the cup. Remember that no bowler can deliver all the 6 balls perfect. After the fall of 2 wickets the indian batsmen lost the mind of attacking the bowlers. They were afraid that they may lost wickets. In these case if we don't attack atleast one ball then the bowlers will get more mental courage and the wicket will fall in regular intervals. If they had an attacking mind they should have atleast some 40 runs more on the board even if the wickets fall. Another thing is that it is not the pitch problem since the indian pitches are more or less same with the pitch in Srilanka. Another important thing to notice is that when ever Sachin plays and get above 30 that means India will fail the match. I am not blaming Sachin. It is a fact that can be noticed if we see last 30-40 Indian matches.
