Dravid Shud be playing at 3, Get in Dinesh Karthik to Keep
by Mohan on Aug 02, 2004 04:49 PM

The Pakistan Tour was a great success with Dravid clicking at No.3, He bought in some stability to the Innings and anchored it well. The other batsmen could bat around him. In th Asia Cup, However Ganguly came in it 3, No doubt he scored runs but he was not anchoring well, A must for a No.3.

My Line-up would be Sachin, Viru, Rahul, Laxman, Yuvi, Ganguly, Kaif, Irfan ...

Its time also to get in a good Wicket Keeper Batsman, and Dinesh Karthik is looking very good, what with his Ranji Tons last season and his continuing excellent performances with India A in Zimbabwe.

Dinesh Coming in lets us rest one of the current 7 batsmen and choose the best 6 on form (Ofcourse Ganguly picks himself regardless of form, due his leadership skills).

Poor batting
by Giridhar on Aug 02, 2004 04:27 PM

It was a pain to watch saachin bat on the eve of finals. It was he who should have a take the attack to the srilankans but rather concentrated on getting his fifty as ususal. It's high time people and the commentators be more bold in sharing their views. Sachin please play for the team.

sri lanka can never be a great team
by sumedh on Aug 02, 2004 04:00 PM

sri lanka can never be a great team
when u get a chance to play a tough opponent, like say india or pakistan in the finals of a tri nation, u dont put up wickets that suit spinners in ur side and thus pocket the advantage for being the home team.
that is pretty similar to what New-Zealand do at home.
they give green tops to the visiting teams. so that their batsman dont score
same bowlers of the new-zealandteam don't respond at all on a flat pitch
same is the case with srilanka
the greatness of a team doesnt lie in just winning a competition
it is honourable to win it in a situation when the external conditions are fair and favour both sides equally
only then will there be a true test of the character of the team and the calibre of the team members

Sri Lanka beats India to win Asia Cup
by Ram on Aug 02, 2004 02:51 PM

It seems that Mr.Ashish Magotra is biased. He has painstakingly pointed out that Marvan Atapattu should have been given out leg before off Nehra, but he has conveniently forgotten that Sachin Tendulkar was also similarly given not out leg before wicket off T.Dilshan not once but off two successive deliveries!! India deserved to lose and thats the plain truth. Let not such instances be quoted to paint a wrong picture of being done-in which is not the case.

Tendulkar a match winner?
by paresh on Aug 02, 2004 02:27 PM

Its time Tendulkar matched his potential with action. The "best" batsman in the world has in recent memory not won a single match on his own account and has always fallen short of the desired target. Sad to say but the truth is there is a thin line between determination and being stubborn and unfortunately he is not being realistic in admitting that he should be redifine his approach to batting ( least of all a lighter bat as this definetly affects his batting).
In trying to prove his detractors wrong he is going down the hill .

ha ha ha......

The attitude of the indians was the most appalling. Their psychology goes something like this. If n runs are needed from n+m balls when m is either very small or negative(at the start) they tend to go flat out at the start and they win such matches with reasonable consistency. When m is very large they tend to wait till m becomes close to 0 and in the process put pressure on themselves, lose wickets and ultimately lose the match. I certainly feel if SL scored something close to 280 we would have had a reasonable chance. The attitude in the first 15 overs was downright stinking. No way they are the second best team in the tournament(leave alone their international position).
