tendulkar
by venugopal on Aug 02, 2004 09:33 AM

Tendulkar now days trying to settle and then he wants play his shots, this is against to his policy. He should play his shots and make others to follow. Instead of that he him self trying to put presshure on him, with this entire team getting presshure of the opposition irrespective of the team. Tendlukar has to thinking about records, records already with him and some toher to follow. Now the right time for tendlukar play his own game or think about retirment from the game.

Comments of Maninder Singh on Sachin

We have a lot of expert commentators or columnists who themselves never had a permanent place in the Indian side. The players who were always in and out of the team are talking about Sachin looks pathetic and it always show their frustration rather than their expertise on the game. Before critising Sachin they should ensure that he is the best player India has of now notwithstanding the Sehwags, Dravids and Gangulys.

Paper Tigers
by R.V. Iyengar on Aug 02, 2004 09:26 AM

The Indian cricketers have once again proved they are tigers at home and paper tigers abroad. It is a pity that a team that boasts one of the strongest batting line-ups couldn't even chase such an ordinary target. Except Sachin, other batsmen, starting with Ganguly, did not apply themselves and play to a plan. Ganguly has reportedly wondered why great batsmen like Laxman and Yuvraj couldn't even rotate the strike. Actually, we want to ask him the same question. What's he doing in the Indian team? He doesn't contribute as a bowler; and as a batsman, he is a shadow of his former self. Forget about retaining him as captain, I feel that he doesn't even deserve his place in the team at all.

why are we still no.2
by vijaykumar saxena on Aug 02, 2004 08:56 AM

another finals another loss that makes it 13 finals and 1 win in any other nation most notbaly austalia a few heads wouldve rolled as to why wasnt the team able to win at least 7-8 finals remember steve waugh being shown the way jusy because aus didnt make it to one finals of the tri series but here ganguly seems to have been given lifetime assurance of captaincy. All week we were told laxman would be fit to play in the final, now how we wish he hadnt been fit. Dravid seems to be dictating to the board when he will keep or he wont , and inspite of all this wonder why we are still no.2 ? Sachin Tendulkar. The Best . The Man. Unselfish. Not Arrogant. Not jealous of teammates success. Gandguly are u listening?

Team lost
by VR Krishna on Aug 02, 2004 08:14 AM

Dont agree with your repeated statement that Tendulkar was not getting enough strike eventhough he was India`s best today! At the end of 15 overs SR Tendulkar 27* (41b 4x4)!! After Dravid`s departure he further slowed down where as run rate was climbing above 6. Once run rate is allowed to climb above 6 in such pitches then no one can save the team. Tendulkar`s job in not playing anchor role! That should be left to Laxmans and Dravids. if he plays anchor it puts pressure on others. But I am not blaming him for the defeat either.

India is exposed !!!

Where is the so called "Think Tank" ?

Even a kid would have told you that the seamers have to be scored of as the pitch had been prepared to assist spinners. [Indians have been deceived by Sri Lanka as all the pitches played so far were perfect batting pitches and suddenly in the finals it was a spinner's paradice].

The Indians knew it when they bowled first. Yet they did not try to score maximum in the first 15 overs knowing fully well that it is going to be difficult to play spinners. I can not understand this attitude.

May be we all have an over-rated opnion on our batting ability. Dean Jones rightly said before the match that the Indians under utilise their talent and Sri Lankans use maximum of theirs eventhough it is less.

This is one of the worst and PATHETIC batting display by the 'great' Indian team.

We seemed to progress but now a set back. Let us be optimistic that they learn from other teams like Australia and Sri Lanka how to approach the game and use it to our convenience effectively and play with a clear strategy.

I hope our players stop acting in the advertisements and start acting as cricketers and start winning games.

Mr. Mangotra, please get over sachin
by ujsesh on Aug 02, 2004 07:57 AM

Sachin clearly has lost his touch. anyone who saw the match would know that he was never in command. He could never connect, nothing beyond a lofted sweep which clicked once in several attempts. Yeah! he was the top-scorer. That he would have been even if he had hit 35. That doesn't count for a top order batsman - he clearly lacks the art of communicating, enthusing the partner and building a partnership. Besides, he left way too early when the score was just 140 and there were 5more wickets to go with stilll little batting left in the team. He just did his usual, when it crisis, leave the scene. He just doesn't deserve all the attention he is getting. All he cares is his restaurant, endosments and for that, he needs to be in the team. He is doing just that. Sachin, a useful all-rounder. Nothing more, nothing less. Not the master-blaster or the worlds greatest batsman. So Ashish, please get over eulogizing sachin. Time he takes charge and media must make him realize that he needs consistency and ability to rise to big occasions.

India with Sachin, Rahul, Ganguly, Yuvraj, Kaif, Laxman and Sehwag could only make 209...It's nothing less than a BIG SHAME!!

1) Saurav should have gone for Parthiv instead of a specialist batsman which would have broken the partnership of Sangakara and Marvan earlier in the innings. This would have brought the scoring rate down and also a couple of extras i.e., we would have saved 20-25 runs which ultimately decided the fate of the game.
2) Although Saurav had 6-7 specialist batsmen in the team, when we see that the top order was fumbling, what we needed was 20-30 quick runs that can be acheived by sending an Pinch hitter lke Harbhajan or Zaheer Khan who can loft the ball.(**Agarkar would have surely made a difference if he would have been there) .
The Srilankan bowling was not deadly but the Indian batsmen gave them the credit and as a whole it`s beeter for Indian team to sit and re-formulate their strategies before the next One day series.
