Smelling A Rat!!
by Arpan on Dec 01, 2003 04:17 AM

My gut feeling says that there is indeed something fishy as far as Pratap's allegations are concerned! I feel that when a person (read Vanka Pratap) goes to the extent of proclaiming to the media (& in turn, to the public) that he had been offered a bribe by a selector but no action was taken by the President of BCCI Jagmohan Dalmiya, then there must definitely be some base for the allegations. After all, Pratap is not a fool & is very well aware that the repercussion of opening such a can of worms might be severe which might even jeopardize his entire career (which may not be related to cricket) & his life. I don't think any one would do something like what Vanka Pratap has done just for the sake of publicity!!! Only an insane person or a politician (who can go any length to get publicity & votes) would do something similar! I deem many (bitter) facts have been swept under the carpet; what say Mr. Jagmohan Dal(mein kuch kala hai)miya???

One point which I have been pondering on for quite sometime now (even before the Kale incident came to light) is on what basis has Jagmohan Dalmiya been chosen as the President of BCCI?

Astonishing!!!

I have been admiring ur articles but in this one you have put forward the point excellently.
It not only makes good reading but the questions mentioned here need to be answered by the BCCI, and soon.

Isn't there a procedure to try these sort of cases?
The BCCI just cant call a commitee and decide the issue. If required they should be going to the courts.

Coming back to you Prem, I think you shouldnt have paid the policeman.

The futility of it all!!
by K.R.Subramanian on Nov 27, 2003 05:34 PM

It is indeed a pleasure to read Prem Panicker's articles. They are incisive, analytical and certainly thought provoking. The sad part of it all is that we have had so very many of these articles by Prem and I will not be surprised if there are many many more still to come. What it tells us is that whatever one may write in the press, however often and however well they may be written, there is going to be no change whatsoever in the way things are or will be.
The authorities concerned may probably laughing at it all!! PIL in a court gets thrown out on technicalities!!
I wonder if someone can come up with some drastic action plans to put our house in order......I wonder

Should we be having foreign selectors ?
by NoFriendOfSelectors on Nov 27, 2003 08:01 AM

People following Indian cricket have always be sceptical about the selectors approach to team selection. Everytime a team is picked one can pretty much say which selector probably was supporting whom. There is always a regional bias and it will always be there.

I thinks it is very important to have unbiased selectors whichor maybe we need a foreign selector who heads the selection panel.

Do They Matter?
by Nakul Goswami on Nov 26, 2003 05:03 PM

The buck needs to stop somewhere. If there were a single leader assocated with the game of cricket, around he would stand up and clear the mess. Integrity, Character, Righteousness is what we can not associate with the BCCI and certainly not with the man of sand (cement). I am sure the board can find some other means of business that are more profitmaking than the game of cricket. Are our players so spineless that they are unable to take a stand against this corruption, have they stopped feeling angry or is it that thier future / career is just too important? The senior players / stars 3especially need to answer this. Maybe this lack of anger shows in their game and so does their hollowness.
Could we ever hope to enjoy a clean game of cricket without the shadow of the BCCI and corruption, match fixing hanging over it?
I am looking at some other sport, but is there any sport left??

cricketing corruption and media
by S S Prabhu on Nov 26, 2003 01:09 AM

it is a pity that our media has no work other than talk of corruption
and talk about cricket
media should highlight only lack of corruption
people will like to know if there are honest people
people have been desensitised about corruption and inability to bring corrupt people to justice
in a democracy
corrupt people have more rights
and they cant be hanged
cricket is the game of the crooked
game of rich, leisurely, funloving, former rajas
and present manthris
it is the media which brought in worship of
so called cricketting heroes
as if they are fightin for the country
taking hefty fee for each act of bowling
batting or fielding
so nothing wrong if corruption is there
with morally corrupt environment
f life of fun and leisure
so enjoy the corruption news

cricket board corruption
by janardhan on Nov 26, 2003 12:35 AM

please conduct a nation wide survey from the general public on what the public thinks on the Kale/pratap versus selectors issue. I personally feel that the selectors allegations are unjustified. So what if they were offered a bribe? So what if they did not accept it? Do you need to crucify somebody to prove your innocence. And vanka pratap's allegation, the authorities that be seem to seek another scapegoat? They think the public cannot understand that there cant be smoke without fire?

Bribes

The article on cricket-bribing scandal is very well written. It raises very valid questions which merit an answer.
