K. B. Kale
BCCI
by K. B. Kale on Nov 25, 2003 07:41 AM

The officials always have tried to browbeat players - whether it is cricket or hockey or Olympic events.
Even in Olympic events, officials stay abroad all through all events while the atheletes or players are sent back as soon as his event is finished.
BCCI, with huge money at its disposal, has become law unto itself. This can be seen by the way they appointed Justice Chandrachud initially to probe the match-fixing issue. But eventually they had to take action when the issue became too big and too hot.
Only player who really put the officials in their 'proper' place was Sunil Gavaskar. He definitely has done a lot for the players' emoluments of today. But still players are treated like animals in the circus...they play but the 'ringmasters' enjoy.
Thanks and best regards,

K B Kale

SELECTIVE BRIBE!
by J.N. Kini on Nov 25, 2003 07:03 AM

Some time back Sunil Gavaskar had in one of his articles on his visit to Hyderabad had written about his visit to a new House built by one of the Indian Selectors from Hyderabad. He had then wondered how this selector known for his moderate financial background could build a grand house.Does anything more be said,? Its been there and it would be there, for the kind of money that a Cricketer rakes in now -a-days, once he is in the National side. And ofcourse, the National selector wanting a piece of the Cake is all but natural in a country like ours. Well, what other encouragement they need when the Heads do not act on the complaints of the players and on the contrary consider themselves beyond the reach of justice of the organisation, unless the victim approaches the court of law.The whole administration stinks. And we think that the Government interference would only bring in corruption!!!!

Kiran More shocks!
by shankar v. balakrishnan on Nov 25, 2003 06:40 AM

Dude,

The analysis of the Kale episode was spot-on. The handling of the episode has been shocking. What is even more shocking is that Kiran More, a national level former player who surely would know how these things can affect a player's career, should go ahead and put an unsubstantiated allegation.

the kale affair

I guess from the fact that administrative powers are always used in bad way in India, it would be safe and benefit of doubt, is against the selectors.

If your wife bribed the cop, and the cop happily accepted it, then its not only the cop who is responsible, your wife also is playing a big part of bribery. [sorry for the offence, its your example].

Unless all transaction are not based on scratching backs, its impossible to prove anybody. Everybody is clean under the eyes of public image.

So, it upto to investigating team. if they find it, good for anti-corruption and if they don't, it would benefit the briber under suspect.

whatever the result, bribery exists is one thing that is very very clear. why else, do you thing india stands at rank along with pakistan in corruption index. why should not it stand with sweden or norway? at least singapore.

perhaps, we don't want relationships at all in our examples to project our public images. what lies within, is what counts. our society is largely corrupt. it starts at dads and moms giving the education to kids.

till then, we should be seeing ourselves above rank 80.

even karma philosphy does not solve these issues.
