Bribes

The article on cricket-bribing scandal is very well written. It raises very valid questions which merit an answer.

What do you expect meritorious players to do?
by rajesh on Nov 25, 2003 02:24 PM

Let the board publish the first class record of top 10 batsmen and 10 top bowlers during last 2 years. Lets see how many of the present senior and "A" team memebers are there. What do you expect Kale to do after topping batting averages and not getting a berth even in "A" team. Only sons of ex cricketrs, politicians or "lucky ones" are seen playing in first eleves of district level school elevens to the test teams.(Few exceptiona are there for their sheer genius).

a sting operation to crash through the covers of BCCI
by mukundan on Nov 25, 2003 02:03 PM

A sting operation will be the right one for selectors themselves to see what they are doing. Let it be dragged to court / a dull investigative team, but the sting will expose and will make sure that the future selectors / BCCI officials will have something to think about their actions.

Xtreme Stupidity
by Indraneel Chandra on Nov 25, 2003 01:55 PM

What a lack of grey cells really! The best way to catch a thief is to catch him red handed. You had all the chance in the world to lay a bait ... and you blew it ??? I can't believe it. There must be another story than what the selectors are parroting around. So many incompetent players have been taken in the past that it can be assumed that this is probably an old practise !!!

Bribery in Cricket
by binadas on Nov 25, 2003 01:06 PM

If the Cricket Board is headed by a Civil Construction Contractor, we will certainly hear cases of Bribery. It is rather surprising that we heard too late. Solution lies in revamping the Board.

Comments on prem's article
by karthikeyan on Nov 25, 2003 12:57 PM

I did read through the first half of the column. The example given by prem(if it is an example then it is fine) if not then such acts by a citizen of this country to go *cheap* is highly intolerable to say the least.

The value's and ethics instilled within oneself can never go under the *table* for any reason. and i would attribute this to the wrong education that one has been through.

Prem: you shouldnt be giving such example's one cannot compare a cop with the selector's; each one has a role to uphold one's dignity while on job.

God help my country from bribe giver's and bribe taker's.

BCCI- Body for Corrupting Cricket in India
by Gaurav Sinha on Nov 25, 2003 12:16 PM

Is there any doubt about the role that cricket board play? First there are crazy selections of selectors- imagine player playing 1-2 tests passing judgement and deciding carrers of great India potentials. Then board has no uniform policy on any matter the current Kale episode combined with UP selection is ample proof of that. BCCI- Body for Corrupting Cricket in India

Good one

Hi Prem,
First thing is first - The way you brought up the article, from your wife's example - it made my day. Well unless A Read another AKD article in rediff. It was simply a brilliant description.

Second thing is second - I tried to be a good reader and charitable - meaning there was nothing to laugh at BCCI even. However looks like charity is beyond this miser. I had to laugh !

Thirdly, lets plan how to buldoze the BCCI. How about burrowing some bofors from the Army and shipping it to calcutta ?
