Dramatic news item on the bribing hit head lines. if one is really interested to bring actual fact, there must have been a stage is set to catch red handed.Absence of this only suggest the root is some where else and it is more of mis leading to wrong end, as it appears. Why BCCI is in a tearing hurry for extreeme action of suspension, when it intiated a enquiry by a judge and the report is expected in a short time!!
Prem its great to read your articles.U do hv guts. Why dont u pass this on to Newspapers for broader coverage?Sad to see the state of affairs.Unless by God's grace players r talented like Tendulkar its very difficult for our players. Its high time BCCI is privatised to avoid all this where merit/integrity is considered for selection whether its the Chairman or the selectors or the players
Dear Mr.Prem, Have been reading and enjoying your columns for a long time and I do agree with the views on this case study. But what do you think can be done by the players against the bureaucratic setup? I think the change should come from the humans in the organisation. They have to feel its their duty to do a good job for the country. As long as they dont feel proud about their job there will alawys be a person who will accept a bribe and as a result there will alawys be a person giving the bribe. Now i wanted to ask you this.....do you think this paradox can ever be blasted apart? as for me ..... never.
I really miss Prem Panickar and his candid reporting on cricket world. This article is a case in point. When everybody is trying to muddy waters, he comes out with a write-up tearing through the veils.
hi prem, wonderful article, i think same and similar questions are ringing through all the cricket lovers minds, but then this happens to be a vice of all the systems in india, theres no running away from it, do you have any insight on the fixing of matches? we can on rediff run a nation wide cricket education campaign, running thru all the levels of cricket and all the places where 'money' plays a big role, right from galli cricket to BCCI president,
or otherwise why dont you write a fiction novel on this topic, something like douglas adams?
When I can see a player of Salvi's calibre play international cricket, there remains no doubt that there is the effect of influence and money in the selection process.
Corruption has become a part of our life and it appears to me that we have to live with it.Everyone ,right from politician to class IV government employee denies to be corrupt but still that malaise exist in the system.Everyone knows that any MLA,Mayor,MP (and other classes of top level politicians) take money to do you favours. What are CVC or CBI investigating then? Are they supposed to deal with only big scamps like Telgi ones ,even for such cases they cannot start on their own and need the permission of the same corrupt politician. My strong feeling is that India's system of democracy truely needs a revival if not an end.
