Whats wrong in waiving the tax??
by Arun Kumar on Oct 01, 2003 08:03 PM

All of us just stare when so many scams are being brought to our notice done respectfully by our most respected politicians and when they accumlate such huge amounts of money publicly without completing any of their duties.Do u feel that its wrong to waive the duty to a great sportsman like SACHIN who has brought so many laurels to us time and again??Even in countries like KOREA where every male citizen is made to undergo compulsary military training, those who excelled in sports like their recent football team were waived of the custom.R we losing anything so badly by letting off the duty. And imagine that he pays the tax and how much development would u expect from that share given the share of our beloved politicians.

Sachin does not deserve duty exemption
by Brajesh Kumar on Sep 27, 2003 08:17 PM

Dear Reader,

We all contribute in Sachin's income. We buy the products he endorses; a share of money with which we buy the product goes to Sachin.

You may argue that he endorses because he is a celebirity figure. True, but can he become popular in solidarity. Are we not party to make him a celibirity figure?

You may again argue that he has rights to earn more as he is more talented. Is he 1000 times more talented than a common man of his age who earns 2lacs per annum? It is very difficult to answer and very tough to judge. But it is true that other than his talent his popularity plays a bigger role in his earnings. And for his popularity we are responsible.

Our society is doing so much for him. No additional small gesture is needed from us or our government.

It is his turn to show gesture towards us, the Indians.

Dear Sachin, we have already given you so much don't take from our contribution to the government. We give to the government for philanthropic purpose.

We expect good gestures from you.

A common man

Sachin and duty exemption
by P M Ravindran on Sep 14, 2003 11:57 PM

Sachin cannot be faulted for requesting for duty exemption because he has every right to conserve his wealth. But the Govt was ABSOLUTELY WRONG in granting his request.

FOR GODS SAKE HE IS ONLY A CRICKET PLAYER ! - A failure at everything else !
by Dr.harsh on Aug 31, 2003 07:21 PM  | Hide replies

you are talking about a cricket player, who proabably has not even completed college and has the intelligene of a genuis Rat .
How about a Tax exemption for the soldiers at the front line , or perhaps the people who brought about FDI and economic reforms so that our poverty stricken youth could get jobs and we could get a better life.
It just that we are a country of over populated poor who "hero worship" since they have nothing else to do . It is the poor and intellectually weak who consider sachin a hero and its beacuse of such banal people we have a issue like this at all.
I say "make him pay" and if he doesnt "put him behind bars for tax evation"

Talent Vs. Being responsible
by DTR on Aug 28, 2003 12:48 AM

The immense public opinion against Sachin's waiver of duty reveals these things.
A born talented person need not be a 'true citizen'

He need not be that knowledgeable, otherwise he would have anticipated these public opinions long ago.

It is a fact that he brought pride to india, but I would never say it was selfless.

Even if he made billions of people in India proud, still that doesn't mean he understands real India better than a little school child.

Popular people can never feel the real India.

The funniest part is, the people who rule this country even considered his request. So I think the blame should go to people of India who elected this government.
