Who is guilty?
by Adil on Aug 24, 2003 10:36 AM

hi,
To start of with i dont think sachin needs favours like waivers for his car's he is capable enough to pay his excise and custom amounts, but then who would not take exemption's if they are given without asking for it, so lets analyse who is guilty by proposing such waiver's. many say that people who contribute for india should be exempted from Custom's, but dear friends what about the Fire people who slav eit out every rainy season for people and ar enot being exempted from custom's to buy latest fire fighting equipments and machineries. well keeping this thing in mind its a shame on part of the government to suggest and implement such waiver's

Sports in India deserve support
by Ram Prasad on Aug 24, 2003 10:33 AM

Any positive gesture to waiver Row shall lure more & more enthusiasts into sports. This shall ultimately lead to a professional sportsmen community in India.. Professional sportsmen community is the only solution for a country like India with a lag in sports arena.

The only sad thing in this whole episode is that this sops are being offered only to a few popular sports.

Government should take proper measures to popularize other sports equally well. Popularizing those sports where India has a leading edge would be a better strategy. So consider Kabaddi, Hockey or Volly ball or any other domestic sports. Its basically imbibing sports into the society.

The final wordd is that the waiver is very genuine. As a return Sachin sould offer himself for a propoganda by an NGO or Govt. for a good cause of the society.

Sachin neither become good captain nor good citizen .
Iam quite saddened to write about sachin . But for me contry is more than any individual .

Before all these ,i was a big ,very big fan of Sachin.
but things forced me to rollback all of my love and respect towards him.

Iam sorry to say sachin , U are a good cricketer but not a good citizen .

Sachin should pay the taxes
by Rahul on Aug 23, 2003 04:49 PM

Sachin is a great batsman. But what after that? He may have won so many matches for India and so have guys like Leander, V. Anand, Gopichand. Cricket is not above any other sport just because it is immensely popular in India.
I bet half the population in India would not even recognize V.Anand or Gopichand and other indian famous sportsmen if they walk past them.
I think Sachin (or fiat) should pay the taxes as Sachin is a citizen of India. Anyhow, the tax is like a drop of water from the Ocean of wealth Sachin has.
One more thing that always hurts me is that despite being the highest paid cricketers in the world, Indian cricketers do not do anything for the poor, and downtrodden and we have to look up to a foreigner like Steve Waugh to visit India daily and do charity.
Shame on us and shame on everybody who thinks Sachin should not pay taxes.
