Sachin to pay duty----WITHOUT FAIL!!!!
by Visalakshi on Aug 23, 2003 09:37 AM

It is not fair to deny the govenment of it's share of duty. Duty is collected and utilised only for the welfare of the people and as a true citizen, he should not avoid to pay the duty. The amount of contribution may be utilised for the welfare of the thousands of people who were displaced in the earthquake or the soldiers who sacrifice their lives to protect us.

Does Sachin deserve it?

Sachin may have deserved it but, the amount is not going to be a great issue to him as compared to his annual income. By giving the exemption, the govenment has lost a huge sum of revenue. The whole of the country could not afford to compramise for an individual? If the government is very keen the welfare of the sports personalities let get the revenue and spend for the welfare of the upcoming and the retired sports persons.

totally confused

To be frank I really dont know whether to support Sachin in 120 per cent import duty waiver on his Ferrari. As a cricketer he has brought so much fame to our country which no other Indian can dare to dream of and all of us would be glad to agree to the duty waiver, but our country is not that rich to loose on such a big amount with so many ppl starving. I think there should be a poll on whether to give sachin a duty waiver on his Ferrari and then decide what to do.

Sachin doesn't desever duty exemption
by Manju on Aug 23, 2003 04:18 AM

Expensive gifts like this under the disguise of a distinguished carrer or achievement should not be encouraged. If Sachin had won any award in any international cups, it is fine for India to give duty waivers. Sachin is a great cricketer, no doubt. Let us not take the laws of the country beyond a certain point. I am really opposed to sportsman or anybody taking the country for a ride, when they can afford to behave like other tax paying citizens with enough money in their hands to pay for such expensive gifts.

Sachin is one of the highest tax payer in the country and a good role model for young kids ...he should have never done this especially when you have immense wealth...he has hugh endorsement deals and what not....i would have really appreciated if he him had paid the taxes...now that the fiat company is paying it...it have even more dented sachins image.....the people all over the country should not accept this kind of special treatment to any person...whether it is a common man or a world renowed celebrity like sachin

He should definitely not be given a tax exemption
by Deepti on Aug 23, 2003 04:02 AM

When the middle class & the lower middle class families can pay so much of funds in terms of taxes..it is a shame that he is being exempted of taxes and that too for an article which is not a necessity for him...He has a lot of cars to help him in his transportation..maybe even one for every member in his family..so why does he need it.
Agreed that he has done so much for the country...but would we do the same thing for a soldier's family who has attained martyrdom...They will be given a few hundreds and left to mourn the death of the person who lived and died for the
country....

Yes
by Adnan on Aug 23, 2003 03:24 AM

Sachin obviously deserves the exemption. After all it's a gift for wich he is seekin the waiver. Would anyone of us like to pay anything for a gift received ??? Why not be a little pragmatic and not be judgemental about the whole issue.
