yes he does

sachin has not only brought joy and happiness to the millions of people in india but also to many more outside our country. he is most ideal person to be projected as the face of india...he has bought not only fame but also immense to our country....
and to complain over a tax waiver to be given to the greatest sporting legend is really pathetic...people say he has got his money's worth but can we count the immense joy and hope he has bought to this country...
even if people disagree with this is this the right way to treat someone like sachin that he is given a court order...it is a insult to a legend....even he has to pay the tax then the situation should have been dealt more maturely instead of handing him a court order...
still i insist it is too small price for honouring a legend.

Does Sachin deserve it?

Sachin does deserve the car, but the waiver, it should not have been exempted but he should have been given some concession. There are other sportsmen who also sweat it out for the country, does the Ministry treat all their gifts that way, they did for Sachin. In India whatever a Cricketer achieves or does is incomparable, we dont treat Viswanathan Anand, Gopichand, Dhanraj Pillay, Paes, Bhupathi etc on par with Sachin. Even the press does not do treat them on par. The law of the land should be the same for everyone and all sportsmen bringing laurels to the country should be treated on par.

No waivers/ waivers to all players/artists
by Asheesh on Aug 25, 2003 10:59 AM

Hi,
The point here is wether or not Sachin should be given a waiver or not? If he is given one then same should be given to any other sportsperson/artist who is given a gift for his performance.

Sachin deserves it...but India can't afford it
by Subramanian on Aug 25, 2003 01:12 AM

If you ask me if Sachin deserves the exemption, well, yes...no one could have earned it better.
But should he get it...no...for the simple reason that our country can't afford it anf Sachin can afford paying it. Its as simple as that. Maybe Saching committed a folly by asking for it in the first place, but c'mon people, here is a guy all of only 29 years wanting to experience the driving thrill of a lifetime. And this is a country where political hooligans stash away crores and crores to evade taxes. All said and done, my adimartion for him will only grow if he will only pay that tarriff and whiz away with Ferrari on the Mumbai-Pune highway.

Exemption for Sachin
by Adrian on Aug 25, 2003 12:41 AM

If he doesn't pay the tax, at least he should donate it to a charity or something. There are so many that can make use of the money. We all have to work to earn our money and do our duty as citizens. It is nice to get tax exemptions, but duty comes first.

controversy about the excemption given to sachin on his ferrari
by mukund on Aug 24, 2003 06:58 PM

First of all, I would congratulate Sachin on his grand achievement. As far as the excemption of the duty is concerned, it is the decision taken by the government and it has the rigt to make a decision on whether the duty should be excempted or not. As everyone is accusing Sachin of not paying the duty, I want to ask everyone, have they forgotten the service Sachin has given to our country, the sacrifices he has made, and above all, the respect that he has gained in everyone's eyes? I don't expect such ridiculous comments about such a great sportsman who has given his life for India. So, considering all this, I support the decision taken by the government to excempt the duty on Sachin's ferrari.

Help people and the Govt.
by Sanatan on Aug 24, 2003 03:47 PM

It is indeed sad not many people are concerened for the people who can,t have one meal per day,who sell their body for food, die with out basic medical treatment, and use foot path as shelter.Look at the developed countries like Korea, Japan- people work harder than Indians. There shoud be no extra reward for working hard. We and all cricketers are supposed to work hard for our country. We are being paid to work and to perform upto our best. How many rich sports person have established charity work like Steve Waugh? Does Sachin think about all these? I hope so.
