Be Indian,undermine Indians
by A.K.Dhawan on Apr 05, 2003 12:26 PM

I feel these ex Cricketers are talking of outdated technology. What is foreign, term well used in the past in the days of smuggling.Today we are a free society and we deserve the best, if affordable.

These modern Indian cricketers are professionals to the core and would have no respect for ordinary stuff.

Wright has done enough, and the results are apparent to a blind man also.

Let us do away with these complexes of foreign business, and think of the best.

Foreign Coaches

Will the advocates of 'Be Indian' swear that their shoes are only from Bata, sweat shirts are only Duke's and their dark glasses are not RayBan?

A foreign coach is not a hero in his own right in India. A self-conscious Indian former cricketing hero has his own image in India. At every stage he would be receiving admiration for his past performances, which is too heady to renounce. The old times, for him, would be revived. He would like to bask in the glory for old times sake just as ageing film stars long for fan adulation and arclights long after the grease paint has been wiped away from the face. Can't blame them. After all they are human.

In order to be a thorough professional an Indian coach should be in a position to forego the lure of the limelight and leave the stage for the current heros. Instead, what has invariably happened is that the former hero has fallen prey to adulation and become bigger than the game leaving the players to fend for themselves.

The right choice as coach would be someone like Ramakant Achrekar or Deshprem Azad, who have quietly performed in the background. Will the Board think of someone like them? Or the lure of the lucre would have petty-minded former cricketers up in arms for a share of the pie?

Patriotism vs. Fanaticism
by Gaurab Sengupta on Apr 05, 2003 12:24 PM

I completely agree with Mr. Vinod M. All this Swadeshi talk is useless if it does not help the team. If a foreigner is doing a good job, we should acknowledge and applaude him. After all, isn't appreciation of different cultures a part of our culture? Or has our culture changed recently? Let us draw the line between patriotism and fanaticism, between pride and arrogance. After all, foreigner or Indian, we are all human beings.

about our coach
by sameer on Apr 05, 2003 12:15 PM

Dear,

Please note that the 'foreign coach' is very much required for the improvement of our team also to avoid internal politics which effect our team sprit (Please take Past experiences). He is doing a good job and his contract should be renewed atlist till the end of 2007 World Cup.

Foreign coach

By all accounts Wright has been a more demanding and strict coach than any of his predecessors. Why then is every Indian cricketer (who are used to being treated as royalty)still clamouring that he be retained ? The answer is simple , his contribution to each player individually and the team collectively is so obvious. He has brought with him a thoroghly modern and professional approach that encompasses , besides playing skils , battle strategy , physical fitness , mental toughness and collective accountability. And the results speak for themselves. No Indian team before this one has looked so united and motivated. It will be nothing short of a conspiracy against Indian cricket if Wright's contract is terminated.
