It will be a very big achievement if India finishes 10th
by Ramakrishnan Iyer on Mar 06, 2010 03:11 PM

If India finishes 10th in this world cup, they would have played very well. I would like to exhort them to give it their best, come on fellows, finish 10th! We are all behind you!

Please support Indian Hockey, dont criticize
by abdul nazeer on Mar 06, 2010 03:09 PM

We have take this world cup as a begining, and support indian hockey and also the sponsors who had taken the initiative to support Indian Hockey, especially Hero Honda, SAIL, Karbon mobiles, MTS, unlike the Pepsi, Coke and other international brands, who only needs sales of their products without any interest in our country. Hopefully Hockey will get back its charm if we continue to improve our game and infrastructure. Our players played good hockey expect for the fact that the ball possession should be minimal and should increase the speed. Coach should not be changed, he should be retained. More test series should be held in India to get more crowd and sponsors. All the best.

ur right...
even draw against the present england team will be a huge achievement... if we had players like pablo amat, tim de nooijr, dwyer then hockey would have easily overtaken cricket as far as viewership is concerned and there salaries would have been much much higher as hockey is really interesting to watch

Renumeration for Indian Hockey players
by S Shrikanth on Mar 06, 2010 08:30 AM  | Hide replies

The newspaper HT, New Delhi edition has exposed the renumeration system for Indian National hockey players that was upgraded a month before the World Cup.

1. For playing in World Cup and Olympics - Rs 10,000/match.
2. For playing International match - Rs 5000/match.

If a hockey player plays average 50 International matches (including Olympics, WC, Champions trophy) a year, he would maximum earn Rs 3-3.5 lakhs/year for playing for Indian National hockey team.

Contrary to this Spanish captain Pablo Amat earns $16m (Rs 75 Crore)/year from hockey. Hockey players in Germany, Australia and Holland earn between $2m-$14m from playing hockey.

Atleast Indian hockey team should prove their best in the current world cup to get the glory back. The hockey players are clueless in front of the european team and fails to convert penalties in to goal. They don't have a star player like Dhanraj in the team.I don't think deepak will be in the team after this world cuo.

Time to revive PHL... if PHL help india in building up new players... then it shud be started and all the so called hockey federation shud be banned and make an independent pvt body for hockey like cricket.. we may curse BCCI but cricket has grown by BCCI strategies which cant be ignored

Yes. Even when India were P;ympic champions and World Champions in Hockey, and in Cricket India was a big loser everywhere, Cricket was more popular among people in India.

As I heard from my father, It has always been a game of rich and elite and then also most of the magazines and periodicals used to give wide coverage to cricket as they were owned by rich and elite people of India.

Today also, cricket is a game of rich and elite(a cricketer earns Rs 2 lakh/match commercial endorsements), a national hockey player earns Rs 5000/match). So, which game the talents would chose? The choice is obvious.
