Roddick played superb tennis. However, he lost his mental control twice.

First was in second set tie-break when he was up 6-2 with 4 set points. He could serve twice out of these 4 points and with his big serve he could easily take that set. However, he crumbled under pressure and lost the set.
In the last set, there were shadows over half the court and the player playing in the sunshine part was obviously having problems sighting the ball. Federer clearly faced trouble earlier (in 28th & 29th game), but he held his nerves as well as his serve. However, when the sides were changed, Roddick could not withstand the problem and lost the focus on the game.
This just proves the point made by some great player (I think Navaratilova - not sure however!) -
At this level, every player is excellent player. However, the champion is the one who shows better mental control, patience and capitalises on the opportunities, however small they are.
Federer did exactly the same and capitalised on those small opportunities and won the match.

Fedex # the all time great
by dhiren jain on Jul 06, 2009 09:29 AM

no words are needed to describe this marathon vicotry of federer over Roddick. beyond a doubt Roger was seen the best after he won the second set in the match. i wish him to continue the same even in coming years.

Thriller of a set
by rocky on Jul 06, 2009 09:23 AM

The 2nd set was a thrilling rollercoaster ride. Fedex was 2-6 in the tie breaker and had to save four set points to equal 6-6 and win the set eventually. This should be the turning point of the whole match.

Roddick was best
by Hari Balaji on Jul 06, 2009 09:18 AM  | Hide replies

Federer won the trophy but really Roddick deserved to be the winner. The sets which Roddick won were very comfortable and in the last set also, Federer has the edge as he served first..
Roddick's forehand shots were amazing and he was classic throughout.. Federer was good only in the serves and he was totally outplayed by Roddick..
Last year, I felt bad for Federer. Nadal appreciated federer for his wonderful performance.. But Federer didnt even turn to Roddick's side. I didnt like his attitude even when he won French open against Soderling.. He doesnt respect his opponents. I want Nadal to be back and continue winning against Federer..!

So what...Rod has an edge as he served first in first two sets...who the hell says fed did not praise Rod after match...atleast 3-4 times...Read the newspapers and watch the news...had you watched the post match ceremony...you wouldn't have said this...No doubt that Rod played the best tennis of his life...but fed was just a pinch ahead...

Federer did appreciate Roddick after the match. He said "Roddick played an unbelievable match and he won because luck was on his side today". A player of such class as Federer cannot be expected to be rude to his opponents. Can you site any instances when he was disrespectful to his opponents?

wimbledon stuck in the past
by mg on Jul 06, 2009 09:10 AM

wimbledon may be richest tournament, but its the most boring also. the courts had lost the grass and only some grass was noticed in patches here and there. the white uniform was another factor of boringness. because the courts are colours the ball was also difficult to keep track of. who care if even the queen of england comes to give the trophy.

Andy Roddick played better than ever. But Federer is a true champion. They know how to come back when they are down and when it really mattered in the fifth set. That is the difference a true champion who has won 15 Grand Slam titles and a good player.

I thought Roger was Champion, but after watching yesterday match I felt he is never a champion. He is rooling the Tennis (30%) with others mistake {called Un-forced error}, other he is also a As good as other normal Player.

Some one who watched Yesterday match complete 4hr's, they will say Roger is not a Campion.

Some one who never want to take any Risk, can not be a Champion.

Idiot! You obviously know nothing about tennis. Roddick served incredibly well and thats why the whole thing dragged on for so long. What risks did Federe not take? He cannot help Andy's unforced errors but have u forgotten his winners? They were more than Andy's.

Have you ever played any game of this kind...Fed was incredible with his serve and footwork...don't see the ball...just look at the footwork and the commitment...unforced error comes because the opponent plays such a fantastic move...

I would like to congratulate everybody to be born in an era which will be known as the greatest in the world for sporting wonders. We are the people who are so lucky that we watched Sachin,Roger, pete sampras, ronaldinho, tiger woods and many other greats making history.
I am thanking god for this. Really these are not just records for us, these people are those watching whom i have grown up. Yesterday match i would rather say that it was fed's bad luck that he could not play as good as Andy but still his below avg game is able to manage it for him.I saw him in Rolex ad and he was looking amazing. But i think in true sense modelling might be affecting his game. Although he is really a model having great looks, But i think he should wait for sometime to enter in modelling and should concentrate on tennis as nadal will be soon coming back and I want to see FEd defeating Nadal in the Frech Open finals 3-0.
