Very True! But our sports ministry should take this seriously and suspend the independant bodies such as IHF and IOF who are ruining our legacy. MAke sincere efforts in calling those people back

Hockey getting attention
by Raghu Nair on Mar 12, 2008 01:07 PM

I am happy that hockey has got all the attention atleast now even though for the wrong reasons. It is time Govt and Hockey bodies do something to revive the National game

re-establish the team
by Vishwanathan Jayaraman on Mar 12, 2008 01:07 PM

In my opininion, Mr.Gill should make an exit and give baton to someone who knows the game. Make use of Pargat Singh, Mohd Shahid, Toiba Singh( stars of late 80's)and ofcourse Dhanraj Pillay to build and develop the skillset in re-establshing ourselves. We can do wonders in Hockey which is our national sport

A self obsessed man called SRK
by Navnit Singh on Mar 12, 2008 01:04 PM

Can he do anything?
OR
Does he even have the desire to do anyhting for hockey?
SRK is a man obsessed with himself. A man who wants to be worshipped. He wants to be at a place which has glamour success and media. He can visit a cricket game which is seen by a crowd of 100 crores but never the poor hockey game.
We Indians including the media are no less sinners. How many of us know the names of our National Hockey team.
A second class cricket match in India gets more media coverage than the heroics of Vishwanthan Anand.
Alas! somethings will never change.

Indian hocky has to be given a motherly care and support not the critics. First of all IHF has to be freed from the crual hands of Gill.

Hockey will bounce back

Take how Indian cricket team had the most ignominious exit in World cup history in last year's WC in West Indies.

Even FIH has not take it kindly since 33% of hockey viewership comes from India and Olympic hockey without India would be a dull affair. This failure has drawn the attention of a large number of people. And must have opened the eyes of those who have been sleeping for years.

Doing nothing
by Arun Velu on Mar 12, 2008 12:37 PM  | Hide replies

These stars, crickters and politician do nothing other than take movies and giving statements on hockey.

We should realise that cricket is growing at the cost of other valuable sports. Many sports (hockey, table tennis, volley ball, football, athletics, etc) in which we are strong may die a slow death.

Due to the undue glamour in cricket sponsors are drwan to cricket resulting in poor revenue support for other games. It is time some of the revenue is shared by BCCI to support other sports too.Though it has made a good biginning they should provide more and fast funds to save other sports and sportsmen.

Absolutely correct. Take Shahrukh Khan, the person who made a movie on hockey and made crores out of it, is actually mad for Cricket. Only by giving a vague statement to the scribes does not help. The Hypocrisy is exposed.

Correct. Why should BCCI pay for hockey? Hockey is the only game which can challenge the popularity of cricket. After all Cricket is built over demise of other sport, hockey is the closest competitor. The artistic stick work on the field can do wonders would be a threat for cricket. So, BCCI would like see hockey on the death bed, even dead for them to succeed in India.
