Welcome Boys.. you have been doing well for India, inspite of all odds. No proper support, selection, facilities, infrastructure et.

Against all odds, yu were giving good performance against all other countries out there. Don't lose heart. This is not the end of your game. Buck up boys.

Best of luck next time..

hockey team wins silver medal
by lakshmi raman on Mar 12, 2008 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

actually indian have won silver medal in a multiple nation hockey event, not in a three nation cricket tounament, which these days happen round the year. we should not expect from lowly paid, lowly awarded, hockey team. multinationals and politicians should answer, what they did after asia cup win.
bravo team india

by Roni gavaskar on Mar 12, 2008 01:28 PM

SRK..SRK..SRK is great Actor..Businessman..Icon..Badhshah..King..Don. Can't you guys think anything ahead of this. And whatever he is is just till he has his hair..once they start going..he will start sun-setting.

Should attach all great words with his name only if he does great things in REAL life..Not just in reel life for personal himself.

his ambitions & energies are just to encash the Indian emotions..Nothing more than that and somehow luck is favouring him.

why hockey demised
by deepu krishnan on Mar 12, 2008 01:18 PM  | Hide replies

The biggest reason why Hockey declined in India was due to the introduction of synthetic courts. Earlier it was played on grass and team could practise on any stadium even football or cricket grounds.
People start playing on these fields and they cannot adapt to fast pace on synthetic fields.
Further to add insult to injury offside rule was removed from hockey.
Now a powerful hit from one side can be trapped at the other side with some luck and can be converted to goal easily. You donot need any skill for doing this.

The Indian hockey has declined, its purely due to the International bodies involvement in changing the rules to favour European teams.

My thinking is that Indian Hockey Federation should take a hard stand and say that they will not play on synthetic fields and start organizing parallel tournaments with other teams around the world on grass grounds as it used to be. Then only Indian Hockey can survive. Otherwise within 20 years hockey game itself will be dead

very true, this is the real reason. They are changing the rules according to their strengths. Be it BCCI or IHF, they always cave in in front of determined respective world bodies, and no body cares until the team loses. So who is the real looser, the payler, the team, the administrator, or the nation which they represent?

Its the game that is going to lose ultimately. Hockey is even declining in Pakistan also. They are also not as strong as they used to be. Without India and Pakistan hockey will surely die soon

Gd analysis.

Cricket is still played on regular ground. What wd happen if all international cricket pitches were made synthetic?

Also, if Gill has not been able to do anything for 15 yrs, then he also needs to take responsibility and go. He shd have driven the installation of synth turf wherever possible. In that respect, it is clearly his failure to support the game in the manner which was required.

No CEO wd survive for 15 yrs with a performance like this.

The beauty of cricket is that the pitch and grounds are different through out the world. No two pitches are Same. Its this uncertainty which makes the game so interesting.

The same is case with Tennis also. Tennis is played on Grass, clay and hard courts which requires different skills. Otherwise Federer would have won French Open by now.

I wonder why this cannot be case with Hockey as well!!

since the rules cannot be changed for us,we have to adapt.have more synthetic turfs and add tech inputs to the game.

Minister(s) are not helpless...they are giving that image...they are the ones who put him there in the first place...!!! Because of the dirty work he did for everybody when he was in the police, nobody wants to mess with him and open the pandoras box. Gill could not do much in the last 14 years...but we were going down since 1970...had there been more hockey playing nations then, we would have been out of the game long back...1980 we won 'cos not many nations were there as they had boycotted the games. Please don't make hasty comments...Gill has done more than what we all are made to see.
