Our players' failure
by HariOm Chawla on Aug 14, 2008 03:15 PM

When our players get some success in any game, it goes into their heads. Big companies catch them and they start endorsing products instead of paying attention to their game and ultimately they fizzle out. Besides, Sania, Rathore, the last Olympic's silver medalist, could not keep promise. Judging from the way, the politicians and commercial establishments have started euoliging the gold medalist Abhinav, he is also bound to go the same way.

Instead of wasting our compliments and public resources on those who get some success, we should pay attention to developing sports' infrastructure and to encourage young sportsmen. I was shocked to learn that the MCD is also giving prize of Rs.5 laksh (in cash or kind) to Abhinav Bindra. They should better spend their resources on improving the conidtion of Delhi roads.

bad luck girls..

When glory come everybody will be with u..
When u lost..everybody will abuse u..
It is common man's attitude..
Don't worry about those stupids..

Olymbics participation is decided by International Olymbics Association..not by Inidan Sports minister..

Sania was send to Olymbics because she was qualified to participate in that sport..

Not sport minister, even prime minister didnot got the power to sent any player to Olymbics,if he or she is not qualified by the Olymbics committee rules.
Sania Mirza got high rank in International Tennis Association Rankings & so she got selected by Olymbics committee..
It is even a great achievement..

See our hocky team didnot even qualified for the event..like many other teams

Thank God you are not any decision making authority otherwise you would change the name of olympics to olymbics. Its not about loosing its about attitude and sincerity toward games. Sania went casually there, behave casually there, in the official ceremony she was defying dress code (clearly shows lack of discipline). And now hiding her defeat behind injury?? Rathore failed this time and he cried infront of camera, this shows that man's spirit and feelings for nation. If Sania was not fit she should have not played with the emotions 120 Bn Indians like this way. Obviously Sania will be selected for Olympics by IOA because she is still the best women tennis player India got this moment. But she should live upto expectation. Since last 2 years she is just exhibiting mediocrisy and Olympic was no different for her.

much deserving exit!
by narmada on Aug 14, 2008 12:30 PM

sania, the most hyped player ever...and indisciplined...she, also sunitha had no time to drape a saree during the opening ceremony due to "prolonged practice" .. Even if they wanted to practice, Sania and Sunitha should have taken time off to make themselves presentable for the event. How could Sania and Sunitha forget that they are not in Beijing in a personal capacity? They are there to represent all Indians. They are our ambassadors and reflect our culture, values, traditions, feelings and emotions. It's a matter of shame if they cannot show discipline even on the inaugural day..and no wonder they got eliminated in the initial rounds itself even after such great practice!!

Sania benefitting from the
by Chris on Aug 14, 2008 11:31 AM  | Hide replies

If Sania had a wrist injury that has been bothering her for the last one year, why on earth was Sania Mirza selected to represent India in tennis at the Olympics ?
The Sports Minister needs to be asked to explain this : If a player is known to be unfit due to injury, why was this player selected to represent the country at the Olympics ?
In a nation of 1.1 billion population, is there no woman other than Sania who can play tennis ? Is she the only woman tennis player in the country, so that we are forced to send her to the Olympics, even if she has an injury problem for the past one year ?
This shows that Sania is being unduly favoured by the Sports AUthorities in India. I suspect that this is the "Azharuddin Syndrome" all over again, wherein, Azahruddin continued to be selected in the Indian cricket team, even 6 years after his performance had gone into a permanent decline, simply because he was from the "minority community".

Lack of proper sport-culture
by hiral joshi on Aug 14, 2008 10:53 AM

That is the main reason for present scenario of India in Olympics. Developing countries like, Brazil, South Africa, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand do better than India in olympics. Surprisingly Indians from USA and other countries win medal but our own Indian sports person fail. This show lack of sport culture in our society as a whole. We are blind followers and worshippers, be they politicians, film stars, business tycoons or sport persons. IOA has ruined the career of weight-lifter Monika Devi and now no apology, no clarification. This the way our sport person treated. Abhinav Bindra even after winning gold medal has to travel in taxi in Beijing and IOA officials enjoy family picnic at govt expenses. Sonia Gandhi without any official responsibility of the govt of India, represents India in Olympic while President and elected Prime Minister are lying back. Sharad Pawar (NCP-politician) holds BCCI, Suresh Kalmadi (Congress politician) hold IOA. This shows political interference in sports. Politicians rather than making nationalist sport policy enjoy the highest officies of sports bodies at the cost of tax payers money.

Bindra's individual acheivement.. . . . ..
by Ramesh on Aug 14, 2008 10:43 AM

Bindra is from business family he has developed passion for shooting. It is his personal achievement without any support from government or any other organization. He is having his own shooting range of world class standard. By default it is glory to India with Bindras individual effort.
