Bindra's individual acheivement.. . . . ..
by Ramesh on Aug 14, 2008 10:43 AM

Bindra is from business family he has developed passion for shooting. It is his personal achievement without any support from government or any other organization. He is having his own shooting range of world class standard. By default it is glory to India with Bindras individual effort.

Sania needs love and support , not harsh words
by sandeep kumar on Aug 14, 2008 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

Remember she played inspite of being 50 percent fit...and she gave her 120 percent for the nation. Such athletes are rare(remember weightlifting cheats like tombo devi , monica etc). YEt ppl think that she focus on ads etc, while her ranking is top 30 consistently,a nd she has beaten the liesk of hingis, dementieva etc. Shes a girl, so such criticism could be sensitive and hamper her progress. Let her be...she's on her way to top 10.

Well i dont agree with your comments. How does ranking matters.i dont even remember the last time sania has won a ATP tournamnt.Keeping yourself fit is also part of the game..All the top ranked players play 10 times more tennis than she has played in last 4 years and you hardly see all of them getting injured. At this level there is marginal difference in being good and great.Sania needs to work on her fitness before she even thinks of getting among the top league.

Many top ranked have participated. Henin did, Williams sisters do. Sharapova did in last olympic. If she was injured she should take care of herself and get in shape of playing for a nation because you are not going to Olympic for fun. You carry the aspirations of 120 bn people.

Branding Monika devi as cheat shows real level of your thinking. If Sania cant play she should stay back and prepare for better. At this stage she can not cross even top 50. Playing for nation doesnt mean that you just go to the olympics for the sake of and waste time and resources of the country.

If Sania was not fit due to an injury, which has been bothering her FOR THE LAST 1 YEAR, she should have informed the Sports Authorities in India about her injury, and some other woman tennis player from India should have gone to the Olympics.
Sania is so selfish, that she insists on represeinting the country in the Olymipics, even when she knows that she is injured. Our Sports Authorities are so shameless, that they selected Sania, despite knowing that she was injured.
Sania is benefitting from the "Azharuddin Syndrome", whereby she will continue to be idolized and pampered by the Sports Authorities in India, as long as she keeps flashing her "Minority Community" card.

Which world are you living in ? She maintained a mid 30 ranking for just a few weeks and her current ranking is 60. And playing despite being 50 % fit isnt something creditable - if she isnt match fit she doesnt deserve to be a part of the squad

by adguru on Aug 14, 2008 10:28 AM

so, this time Sania will use excuse that she was "half-fit". Media can keep a big list of such Sania excuses:
1. I was half-fit
2. Its alwaysdifficult to play after long break
3. God was not on my side
4. I played badly because of issues back home
5. She (opponent) got lucky
6. ...

Hype
by Anup Dubey on Aug 14, 2008 10:27 AM

There is a lot of hype around Sania like they have for Kournikova. Let Sania concentrate on her advertising career and let us find a fresh talent. She's a star that showed for brief spell before the glam world caught her attention. She plays more to the media than actual, serious and hard core tennis.

Sania and Sunitha,s game
by premvir singh on Aug 14, 2008 10:17 AM

Both Sania and Sunitha are very good doubles players. They should play more together and focus more on doubles play rather than singles.Sania has acheved 28 singles ranking and she can not break barrier of 20 forget about coming in first 10.But I am confident this pair can progress like Hesh & Lee in doubles and become world beaters..And nothing is wrong in that.I wish best of luck to both of them

Cricket-the latest PUNCHING BAG!
by sandeep kumar on Aug 14, 2008 10:14 AM  | Hide replies

PPl are having fun now since AB has won gold, and cricket is now easy to criticise for team india lost 1 series(ppl forgetting the bad umpring that cost us). The same people were partying for t20 wrld cup win. What people dont realise:

1. World champs 83 2007
2.Richest body in cricket
3. Cricketers spend 300 days away frm fmilies, so money is justified
4. Cricketers spend 5 days in the sun playing test cricket
5. If they lose, then ppl burn effigies, threats

Cricket is one the worlds best team sports, and we shud be proud that TEAM INDIA is the wrld best team.
Bhajji sreesanth are the face of new aggresive India. Jai hind

The fingers on your two hands are enough to count the number of countries of the world that play cricket and you don't need any hand to count the number of non-Commonwealth countries (ie countries which were not a part of the British empire before 1946) that play cricket. So what makes more sense for a nation claiming to be a future superpower - invest energy and resources into something the whole world plays or into something a handful of countries play. Also, cricket does not really demand the fitness and skill required by Olympic sports. That is why it is less attractive to the world in general.

Appears u are a hard core cricket buff. Mate the labourers work on the field 365 days in a year weathering rain, heat, cold, storm etc......how do you react when they ask one rupee more for the price of Potato or the vegetable or rice.........surely u don't empty your purse because they have sweated for us. The cricketers don't see beyond money. When we lose a game our mood gets spolt but u would find those same guys whom we wanted and expected to win chilling out partying after the loss. There is something called consistency and the Australians are known for it. Our Indian cricketers don't deserve the adulation that we bestow upon them.

Media to be blamed
by sudhir chauhan on Aug 14, 2008 10:14 AM  | Hide replies

Sania is nothing but a hype created by Media.
They never did the same for Saina Nehwal as badminton is not very popular - Saina is currently ranked 15th in the world and in the last 6 months has jumped more than 150 places.

a day is not far when media will have to take on public directly for their commercial reporting - this is nothing but YELLOW JOURNALISM

Actually it has to do with the fact that Sania is from the South It has to be accepted that anything from the South is hyped by the people there out of all proportion. That is what S. India is all about - boasting and blatant selling. Only thing, it has to be something South Indian.

Saina comes from a North Indian family. That is why she was not hyped, nor did she and her family consider hype important.

Absolutely.....Only reason she is getting eyeballs is because of her looks...nothing else....tell me what great did she do...her best is the third round in Grnad Slams and an Asian Games medal.....
Media always gives attnetion to good looking sportspersons and this trend can be dangerous in a country like ours which has rarely produced any world beaters...

In most of the tournament she has not gone past 2nd round. I don't understand why the media is making it big about her.

Non-Consistency is the curse of most Indian sports personnel in general. One day they will beat the top ranked and next day then can even lose to the lowest ranked in that respect.

Dear Amrit, again lack of balanced approach. It has nothing to do with south. This type of silly comments just fuel regionalism and not any constructive headaway. Sania is too much hype because of her looks, Media finds her sellable comodity and companies too.
