Please do not abuse these Indian girls.

Sania and Sunitha did their best under difficult circumstances losing to a superior team. Lets congratulate them for their tenacity (6-4,6-4 is a very tight margin) and also for popularizing tennis for young girls in India. The should be treated as role models, not villified like some are doing on this forum. Jite raho beti Sania and Sunitha.

Trust me, If you were better then sania and win medals you still won't feature in ADS or posters. No one will talk about you. Why? you are not a girl. Second. you have to look good to make it. Otherwise no one will even talk about you except before olympics. Proof: karanam malleshwari. She won the lone medal and everyone forgot her by now.

I am ugly as hell and getting uglier by the minute; and the only sport I ever excelled in was hitting moving targets with catapaults, which is not even an Olympics sport. So obviously I cannot be famous.
I think what you say is probably true in the West -- going by all the layers of make-up, manicures, tattoos etc. on display on the American atheletes. But it is probably not so true in Asian cultures such as China and India, where we respect talent more than looks.
In any case thats what I would like to believe ....

Bose Babu before hitting out on America look at their achievements. They work damm hard to win all those medals and if you do not believe then you should go to USA and see how tough it is for athlets to find a space on Olympic Team. Team USA has won the heighest medals so far and the will probably finish at top with China. It takes dedication and hard work not the make up you talki9ng about. Learn to appreciate the good things when someone excells either Indian or anyone else. In India we talked about being best but do not wanna work hard to achieve that status. Nothing beats hard work and that you can see when Abhinav Bindra won the Gold or Michel Phelps won his numorous Gold Medals.

The Chinese are at the top of the medals tally going by the universally accepted measure of the number of gold medals (for instance IOC official tally). Do not let the cry-baby US media suddenly change the rules. The Chinese spend far less and their athletes don't wear excessive make-up or the latest in fashion-wear.

You are utterly ignorant to make that comment. I am not sure how much you know about American culture, if talent is not respected in America it is not respected anywhere. Just look at the sheer number of talents in all fields they attract. That is not by chance. I think we Indians are way too concerned about looks and outer appearance. You can believe what you want but the truth prevails. Do you know that in the US the athletes have to look for their own private endorsements and they hardly receive any support from the govt. Without talent no corporation will ever give a damn about them.
As per the medal tally lets wait for the track and field events.

come on. The girl is much hyped Her record is no impressive. Since she is good looking and know how to hold tennis racquet she is being used by the brands. I will She also screwed Sunitha in the doubles. where is his wrist pain now. When she start loosing she start quitting. She is the to be avoided role model.

Forget sania. Somdev Devvarman is the furure star of indian tennis. And he is a far better talent than Sania. If india ever expect an olympic medal or a singles grandslam, it would be somdev to win it for us.

Economic power Vs Medals
by Meh on Aug 13, 2008 11:44 PM  | Hide replies

China spends 450 Million dollars annually in sports excluding the private money which is negligible.India spends arounds 280 Million dollars annually excluding private funding which is lot more then China. Still we Indians get hardly any medals where as china tops the table with medals. Things seems to be wrong and there should be proper enquiry and audting towards the way money is spend in India in sports. the propable problems would be
1. The money in India is not spend on sports rather on some other activity
2. Lack of implementation of the process or managing of the different programs. Somehow it seems that we do better in sports which have minimum Government funding like cricket, chess or tennis
If India needs to excel in sports and get the medals according to its economic standing in the world we need to get the politicians out of sports and strenghten the management team
