When American Citizen Hargovind Khurana won Nobel Prize, we said 'he is an Indian'. When Mother Teresa won Nobel prize, we said 'she is an Indian'. When we see Golfer Vijay Singh winning tournaments, we say 'his parents moved to Fiji long back BUT basically he is an Indian'. We make similar comments for West Indian Cricketers: Kallicharan, Ramadhin, Rohan Kanhai...the list is endless. We PROUD Indians should be happy that Abhinav Bindra has at last brought glory to this medal-starved nation.

arre bhai.sports is very large world.cricket is the one which commands least physical fitness.therefore we indians and gujjus r after that. and again cricket invloves lot of money. and u r in news for money..hahah
while I agree with Kabeer on his point that because of USA's encouragement and investments, these Indian Origins made world records - however, what we need to realise from this is - in India (and in Indians - let it be Sunita or Raj Bhavsar) there is no derth of talent - it is the pathetic attitude of the government in not investing the required facilities, encouragement and finance is what preventing (discouraging) the sports here. Moreover, the corruption in all levels, including sports, sometime makes the most talented person not getting the required attention/encouragement and recognition. but, still, we are, as Indians, proud of the achievements of Non-Resident Indians - after all they are INDIANS.... Ys. It also puts to rest the theories by 'know-it-alls' that indians have a genetic disadvantage etc. to defend our pathetic show in world sports. It shows that hard work and dedication along with world class facility is enough for Indians to excel.

yes. i agree. raj is definitely a person of indian origin (pio) staying in usa and he has done our community proud. lets appreciate it. to be done not merely by the community there but by indians also.
In case Raj was in in India, Suresh Kalmadi and Ranbhir singh would have ensured that he was not selected for the Olympics as their word is law in IOA. Throw these goons out and get professionals - You will see Indians emerging as medalists.
Raj is an American born to Indians of American origin. His parents names are Bob and Sue and he probably thinks that Gujarat is a sweet and here we have 'exciting' rediff sensationalizing this news so that we can read it. The title should read 'American Raj wins' or 'American of Indian origin wins'. Since this was a publicity stunt you were lucky bcos u got us to read it but remember there are sensible people among your readers too who know when they are taken for a ride. Stop such gimmicks!

He is as Indian as you are. His parents goes to Tamples more then you do. He knows value of hard work. He deserved the bronze and we all are proud of him. We in Houston will welcome when he comes back. He made the whole Indian community proud. He may be more cultured in Indian traditions then some of these people who just try to put negetives in everything. Yes Indians can do better in India only if we can facilitate all these aspiring children. I was so joyed to see Abhinav Bindra won the gold then Phelps winning is 11th gold, eventhough I am an American Citizen but I still got my Indian genes in my Indian blood.
Perhaps he would not have been in the OLYMPIC squad due to politics and politicians. Atleast he participated and won something for US making Indians proud.
Anyways, there cant be a joined national anthem of India and USA. We Indians always habbit of sacrificing lot of things, including the POK territtories.

but him being part of the team winning bronze itself is a joy to celebrate for our pio community in usa.
