ANAND ON IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS ....
by abhimanyu on Sep 30, 2007 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

LatestChess:- Do you think daily physical exercise can help a chess player to increase brain's ability to concentrate, remember, focus, visualize, and plan ahead? Could you tell our readers about your views on importance of physical fitness chess.

Viswanathan Anand:- In chess a small mistake can cost you the game. If you are tired then you make errors in calculations. I go to the gym everyday and it helps me concentrate longer. Especially when you play a tough tournament you need to conserve energy for the last rounds.

You can see from this that physical fitness is also very important for mental stamina.

Hope u guys get a note of this..

A healthy mind in a healthy body.

All the chess world champions came from Russia , except the american Bobby fischer and the Indian Vishwanathan Anand.

And now we are the best of the best.

Yes it is an exception. We should really celebrate when it is the norm like Aussies in cricket and Russians in chess, US in all sports...
But it is a good start for our impoverished country. Thanks Anand

Abhmanyu, you are completely wrong. I am listing below the non-Russian champions.

Out of 17 world champions since 19th century (19 if you include Adolf Andersen and Paul Morphy who were the best players at a time when there was no World championship), only 5 have been Russians. These five are, 1. Alexandre Alekhine 2. Vasily Smyslov 3.Anatoly Karpov, 4. Alexandre Khalifman, 5. Valdimir Kramnik

The following champions were non-Russians, but are considered russian by adoptation.

1. Mikhail Botwinnik (Jewish), 2. Boris Spassky (Jewish), 3. Garry Weinstein (aka Garry Kasparov, Jewish Azerbaijani).

The following champs were non-Russians, but were Soviets.

1. Mikhail Tahl (Latvian), 2. Tigran Petrosian (Armenian)

Thye following Champs were non-Russians.

1. Wilhem Steinitz (Austrian), 2. Emanuel Lasker (German-Jewish), 3. Jose Raul Capablanca (Cuban) 4. Max Euwe (Dutch), 5. Robert (Boby) Fischer (American), 6. Viswnathan Anand (India), 7. Ruslan Ponomariev (Ukranian), 8. Rustum Kassamdzhinov (uzbek)

Look at the last list which is of purely Non-Russians/ Non-Soviets. All World Champions were Russians is a wrong notion that many people have.

is carrying a huge article (online) about Anand today. Reporter is saying that Anand dominated because he had worked very hard to prepare, and also came up with some surprises for all his opponents. Reporter also says that first 15-18 moves in all chess games are predictable but after that Anand always sprang a surprise...

I agree. That country has given nothing but fundamentalism (Taliban , Kashmir, 9/11..) and violence to humanity.

Will India give the same grand reception
by Arul Kumar on Sep 30, 2007 06:16 PM

After his majestic feat of two World Chess Championship titles, Viswanathan Anand is now eager to see whether his countrymen give him the same grand reception that they had extended to Twenty20 World Cup winning cricketers.

Congrats Anand. You have been carrying on the Indian flag for so long. Its time that someone relieves you of the burden. Train and groom some youngsters who can take on the responsibility from you in the times to come gradually.

With best wishes,
Srinivasan.
