Well done on another stupendous effort, which will as usual in any sport (other than cricket) go unnoticed. You are one of the genuine torch bearers of Indian sports. Laurels are not new to you, it is just another feather in your cap. Keep the Indian flag flying as high as possible
Congrats Anand for finally being officially recongnized as no 1 on the rankings a much deserved rank that has been elluding him for nearly a decade. The deadline for submitting the tournament results was Feb 26 for the FIDE. Hopefull they accept this late submission and it gets reflected on the Apr 1 ranking release. Otherwise we have to wait until July 1 and hope for Anand to continue to be on top to be officially rated no 1 on the rankings.
Another thing to be noted here is Anand will also be the player with the highest elo rating (2816) on this ranking release and higher than kasparov (2812) which was his last rating when he retired. So Anand will be the true No 1 and no one can defy as he is higher than Kasparov in rating too and has not just got the ranking bcos kasparov is inactive.

sruno,
anand will gain a mere 7 or 8 pts and his rating will be 2787 or 2787. Not 2816. The 2816 rating was how he performed in the tournament and that will not be his rating when the new rating sheet is released.

Whatever ELO rating he crossed 2800 mark, only Indian to do so, congrats. FIDE will play another politics.
Congrats for getting a timely tie to win the Super 8 tournament and capture No 1 ICC ranking. Oops. Its about chess, huh?
Jokes apart, hearty congratulations Anand. Only regret is that you couldn't do it when Kasporav was reigning the chess world amidst popular belief atleast among Indians
we have had pleasure of having world champs in various age groups:
Anand was first to beome world u-18 champion in 1987!! Harikrishna repeated this feat in 2004!! Hari was u-12 champion as well.
Koneru Humpy, though is one of the strongest women players, still couldnt be world champ. mainly coz she plays in men's groups, with expection of women's world championship where she has been unlucky.
apart from them arthie ramaswamy won world u-18 championship for women few years ago. and we have some upcoming juniors like sahaj grover u-12 champ.
just to make few points, to remove some false beliefs here:
- ANAND hasnt become world champion, he has become Highest ELO rated player currently. with rating of 2783. and this is still to be officially declared, as FIDE may or maynot include this tournament for march list, then Anand WONT be highest rated but second behind topalov, an will have to see results of next three months till next quarter rating list is announced. BTW: current world champion is KRAMNIK who won it from Topalov in one of the most ontroversial world championships ever!!!
-Anand has been world champion for one year in 1999-2000 by beating Alexie Shirov in fide WC finals in TEHRAN. Initial part of that championship was held in DELHI!!!
Hope Anand becomes world champion soon, and also crosses 2800 rating mark again!
