Undoubtedly he is the greatest sports person of India. In a sport which is dominated by the non Asians (at present there is no Asian in the top ten apart from Anand) his achievement is simply unbelievable.

the OFFICIAL LISTS ARE DECLARED QUARTERLY. Though Anand has gained enough points and topalov lost enough points to swap places, but its still not final that this currect tournament of linares/morelia will be considered for the upcoming rating list or not, as the last date for tournament results submission was 28th feb.
Probably FIDE will be generous and include it and then in APRIL LIST Anand will be NUMBER ONE RATED PLAYER for sure. For the first time!!
But still have to wait for APRIL LIST TO BE released, to have this OFFICIAL!!!
Also, if they dont add this tournament in that list, it means Anand and topalov an may be others have 3 more months of tournaments to improve ratings and anything is possible then.

its amazing that national channels are also reporting wrong news regarding this.
I would appreciate if these reporters take consultation from some professional players. How about appointing IM MANUAL AARAON or ARVIND AARON of chessmate fame. Atleast you have have professional reports to show.

Guys seems like you didn't read the news properly. It clearly says, "he would be listed world number one in the ratings to be released in April." Its not April yet, so wait for another month.
A lot of things seperate Anand from a lot of other greats of India. The main thing is his virtues!! He is the nicest sportsperson, it seems. I read it on some sites (chessninja.com). He does not aggressively go for the kill(defeat) if not entirely necessary - that's if the extra half point is not going to change the overall result of the toarnament. Also, he does a lot of charity work. He is quiet, pleasant and darling of his chess colleagues!!
He should be chosen as UN ambassador from India!!!
Sania, Sachin Crazy Fans! Look at this man's achivement! Have you ever heard of he following names ? 1. V Anand 2. Geeth Sethi 3. Michael Ferira 4. Prakash Padukone 5. Pankaj Advani They are all World No Ones from India. There can be many more!

Hats Off to our V Anand, You make India proud, you are role model for many Indians.... even around the Globe....
I think our cricketers should learn from Anand, he plays one of the toughest games, still be keeps low and plays for his country, winning matters....
He is not Media friendly, he supports many poor children, so do his dad (Former GM of S Railways), am from Chennai, even I have met him few times, during in Don Bosco days, a simple and humble person, used to travel by Bus, he was still on world Ranking then!
