Undoubtedly V Anand is the greatest sportsman from India ever. He has been in the top 3 in the WORLD for the last 15 years in a game played all over the world (not just a few countries) and which happens to be the most complex game in the world. And now he is the no. 1.

I think for the next 2-3 years no one is going to come close to anand in terms of world rankings. Topolov had a purple patch which seems to be fading and no one else has been as consistant as anand in the last 15 years.
Congratulations. Anand is deserved to be No1 in the world. It is due for long time. A non Russian gets this position gives a new mark inthe history. Also many can remember that during match with Kasparov in USA, Kasparov got help from Karpov and Krammick. I request viewers analysis.

This is a typical norm followed for FIDE tournament titles that you get 2 GM for help. Anand also got the same, lost the match but with dignity, in contrast to SHORT. Somehow I feel Russia, USA could never believed India can climb to NO.1. hence politics. His fide match with Karpov was a political decision since he was not prepared fully and tired after the previous tournament. Visit chessgames for details.
