I would like to share my experience I am in USA and at my workplace once upon I had a discussion with my senior coleague(white) he asked me how is V Anand. I said who is V Anand. Then later on I realized that he was asking me about Vishwanathan Anand. I being an Indian emberrassed on that day. If someone would have asked how's Sania or Sachin I would have realized immediately. He was a grandmaster 15-16 years ago and consistently playing chess for last 20 years at international level. and his ranking is from 1-5 throughout career. But unfortunately that guy has not get the popularity or recognition in India as he should. I salute the pride of India ,Vishwanathan Anand
Media should not project this kind of achievement. He should definitely be world no. 1 or else he is already. but what is news in that?... we have to run behind cricket.. cricket world cup is very near.. or Sania Mirza though she gets out in 2nd round we have to project her first round win..
Chess is a Master's game?.. we have many intellegent and Masters in our Parliament.. so why we need Anand?..
Anand is always calm, quiet, and steady of nerve and emotion. He is not hot headed, or overly ambitious (that quality has led to the fall of many good players I think). He is modest and friendly natured with a very down to earth view of life and chess. He doesn%u2019t tangle with other players or try to play psychological games. Call it playing the board instead of the player, but that quality is key to his style.
IT'S A PRIDE FOR EVERY INDIAN TO HEAR THE NEWS THAT ANAND HAS GAINED THE NO.1 POSITION IN THE WORLD.I HOPE THIS WILL SURELY ENCOURAGE MANY INDIAN YOUNGSTERS TO TAKE CHESS AS THEIR CAREER.... BY, BADRINARAYAN.
Vish Anand is one of the true gems India has ever produced. Indian media is an utter piece of garbage due to which Anand remains unhighligted. They are run around the cricketers and crappy movie actors. It would have been so nice if every great Indian player (like Ananad, Bhutia etc) was given equal importance with these smelly money hungry cricketers and crappy bogus bollywood people.
Well...its so sad that our cricket crazy media has sidelined the news of Anand becoming No.1 in the world!! Our country takes a lop sided view of things as a whole, and real stars like Vishy Anand hardly get the kudos they deserve!! Anand (& not sachin, Sania etc) has truly been our best sports person ever , and all he gets back from his own media is is perhaps a bottom corner of front page! Arise, dear Indians & hail the true Champ of our times....Vishy anand!! Long live the King of chess!!
