Was it not a blistering one, the Wimbledon Men's Final this year, wow, what a treat ! But I am with Rafa. Only because Federer somehow doesnot seem the old fierce player he was till last year, he has developed weaknesses, is making many unforced errors, while young Rafael is definitely on the up-swing. In the last set, a bit of youthful over-confidence seems to have cost him a splendid place in history. But what can one sya abnout next year ? Each yearso many young and younger highly talented and dashing players are coming on to the circuits, and who knows, both Fedex and Rafa may have to bow out to a fierce new guy! (Look at Ms Marion annihilating World No.1 Henin !) By the way, where in all this tennis blitz is India's Ms Mirza ? (Her serve not improving, her rankings falling, are Indian sportspeople not fit for the rigours of world sport ?) Surekha Tenneti Venugopal
It was exciting, no doubt, but there ware too many unforced errors from both the players...more from Federer. It is quite obvious that he was trying too much and it is natural too, especailly when Borg was watching. He is human after all. He tried to play too aggressively and used flat back hand too often than his well proven top spin back hand. His flat back hand is his surpise weapon. He should not have used it, especially when Nadal was hitting deep ground strokes. It was only in fianl set he started using his top spin back hand. And that set proved the magic of Federer. Can any one remember cleary how each point went. One remembers a flurry of aces and ground strokes that skimmed the lines on both the flanks and some fatastic net play. The main point is that Federer has done this magic many times and that could make him the greatest tennis player ever. As far as Nadal is concerned, he is not yet comfortable advancing to the net. He lost more points doing that that he won. His reach is fantastic and his court coverage is amazing. But, he has to be very carefy while reaching for impossible to retrieve balls - especially when he tries to retrieve after getting 'wrong-footed'. It may be exciting for the spectators to see him hitting some lucky winners lying flat on the ground, but it is not good for his physical fitness. One can exercise muscles but bone joints and the tendons connecting them are more delicate. He got hurt yesterday while trying to retrive a ball after gettin

sounds irrelevent...so is it, ths what yesterday's match makes of evrything else!!
I watched the final's first two sets and am not impressed with any of these players games. It is almost like womens tennis, with unforced errors and hitting over the line.. i hope most of the people who have been watching tennis from becker period will agree with me.Most of them fear to express their thoughts because of the musch media hype over this two.
expecting more comments on the above (ofcourse some must be harsh)

WELL KARTHIK... EVEN FOR ME BORIS BAKER IS THE MOST EXCITING PLAYER ON GRASS COURTS OF WIMBLEDON..AND THE MAIN WEAPON HE USED WAS VOLLEY.. AND HE WAS JUST AMZING AT THAT.. WHAT HE COULD DO AT THE NET WAS JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD.. BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE ANY OTHER PLAYER ANY LESSER. BASICALLY THESE TWO PLAYERS HAVE A DIFFERENT GAME ALL TOGETHER..
NOW REASONS WHY THERE ARE LESS VOLLEYS AT WIMBLEDON--
1) GRASS COURTS AT WIMBLEDON HAVE OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS SLOWED DOWN. BALL DOES NOT ZIP OFF THE COURT AS IT USED TO. SPECIALLY IN THE ERA OF BECKER. 2) THE BALLS HAVE CHANGED AS WELL.. MAKING IT EVEN SLOWER AFFAIR. 3) AS THE PLAYERS TODAY CONCENTRATING ON GROUNDSTROKES MORE THAN JUST SERVE N VOLLEY..
NOW FOR THE CONTEST OR THE QUALITY OF BECKERS ERA .. WELL THERE IS CONTEST NOW IN THE FORM OF FED VS RAFA.. AND ITS AMAZING.. AS FOR BECKER. WELL EVEN HE WAS BEATEN FAIR AND SQUARE BY SAMPRAS AND AGASI EVEN IN HIS PEAK TIME.. REMEMBER THE FINAL OF 1993 BECKER WAS IN SUPERB FORM AND HADNT LOST A SET TILL FINAL BUT SAMPRAS SIMPLY DISMISSED HIM IN THE FINAL. NOW WHY DID THAT HAPPEN? SAMPRAS HAD A BETTER ALLROUND GAME.. WHICH SANS EDBURG NOT MANY HAD IN BECKERS TIME.. ONLY LENDLE COULD COME CLOSE.. OK NOW IF U TALK OF SERVE AND VOLLEY . SAMPRAS WAS MORE AGRESSIVE THAT FEDEX.. BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH QUALITY , ITS SIMPLY THE STYLE OF PLAY. FEDEX IS COMFORTABLE EVEN FROM BASELINE AS AGASI AND WHEN HE IS AT THE NET HE VOLLEYS AS GOOD AS ANY TOP GRASS COURT PLAYER. IN FACT FE

You cant tell my dear the game required at grass court is serve and volley at which men like becker and sampras were masters, which isnt the case with fedrer or nadal so if its on a grass court i am sure that more often than not these baseliners will get beaten, maybe on a clay court they can win.
Looking at the Unmatched Class of Federer (on Grass Court) and the Fight that Nadal had given to him in Final, One has to Admit that Rafa is a Fighter.

don't compare cricketing stupids with tennis players, these are sportsmen not politicians like cricketers..
I Started to listen commentry on BBC from 1986 when boris becker won the wimbledon and then i am 13 years old. my dream is to play tennis but it is a costly affair then globally and today i am having money but not age to win a wimbledon for india. my dream is to see an indian winning wimbledon in front of british crowd and hope that will come soon. more and more tournaments needed to improved tennis in india especially for poor class who cannot afford to buy a racket either.

Winning a single either male or female title is not impossible but it seems we are not made for these titles, since our passion is not driven by hard work, support and actions.

We Indian are don't play power game. well reason is that we don't have power like americans and europeans have. but we always play artistic. whether it's cricket or any other game. even in cricket also now power play become more popular and India is loosing.

Today, Sania Mirza is India's best tennis player in singles, though she hasn't achieved much success in grand slams. It will take 10 yrs for an Indian to win Wimbledon singles, It can happen earlier too. You never know, anything can happen, who knows we will have another youngster of the callibre of Ramanathan Krishnan or Vijay Amritraj
He has truly taken his game to some heights in the 5th set as the 1st 3 sets were closely fought. But, down in serve on 15-40 on 2 occasions in the decider and overcoming them, FEDEX never looked back and never wasted any time to clinch the title.
Nadal missed 2 oppurtunities and has to wait for one more year to try at wimbledon.
Most entertaining finals after the famous sampras-ivanecevich & sampras-agassi finals.
