Federer doesnt look invincible
by Girish on Jul 09, 2007 02:39 AM  | Hide replies

Just got a feeling after watching todays epic match that it might just be the beginning of the end of Federer's total dominance.Since last 2 Slams he doesnt look the old Federer.I had thought in grass Federer will blow Nadal away. But till the end of 4th set,Nadal was clearly the better player.Federer should try to have some new strategy against Nadal as simply on brute power alone Nadal is definately the better player. Also Nadal exposes Federer's not-so-great backhand easily. No wonder we saw too many uncharacteristic unforced errors from federer today. But a win is a win.So, Congrats Federer.

Not to worry... To win against federer one have to play best tennis and Federer has to play bad. Though Federer was not at his best today, he was too good for Nadal.

KAKAJI
Great Fedex

Saw the match today--- simply great. In a few years time Nadal will take over the mantle from Federer, and his chance of winning Grand slams on all four surfaces are much more brighter than Fed's (even though he has to win at Rolland Garrows).
I have been watching Wimbledon for the last maybe 30 years live on TV. Where have the serve and volliers gone? The courts too are slow-- maybe a shade faster than clay surface. Has the malady of fast pitches (in cricket)turning slow as seen in SA, UK, W.INDIES & to some extent Australia been catching up at Wimbledon too? This match today looked more like being played on a clay surface than on a fast grassy surface. Hope the Wimbledon officials are looking into this aspect too.

have u seen the match on tv or on field. I guess, Ball at many times risen to the height of chest. If that much bounce is being returned, thats assured groundmen did their job good. As far as i know clay surface are those where ball comes fast to us unlike on grass. So placing at grass is difficult by avergage/below height person because of slowness as well as pitching low

I agree with you. In fact that was Federer's comment too. I am not sure how they prepare the courts these days but definitely they are slower. Morever the balls also move slower through the air. I guess this was done to ensure more rallies and hence generate better interest amongst people keeping in mind the commercial interests of the game. I remember seeing videos of Pete Sampras and Stefan Edberg serving and volleying but clearly the ball was moving faster through the air and off the grass too. Obviously this will give less time to the opponent to return the ball. A weak return induces a chest high ball which can be put away as an easy volley. In fact, Federer's service speed is almost on par with Pete and he even tried to serve and volley on a couple of occasions. But Nadal seemed to have all the time in the world to pass him. All said and done it was a fantastic match and a treat to watch!

all u bloodies this is ok that fedex is a good player but the prob is that there is no one apart frm nadal who can give a good comp to him. u know the quality of tennis is going down . there is no consistency in players. in the 1990-2000 era many legends played together and thats why the no player achieved much. pete , andre agassi ,jim courier, stefan edberg, micheal stich, goran , micheal chang , kafelnikov and sergei burgeira wre all very good but they played at the same time therefore the honour was divided. had the federer was plying in that era , evn reachin the final would have diff for him

hi Asif, i appreciate wt u ve said....but do remember that Fedex has literally tortured Agassi in all the matches he has played with him n fuck88 Sampas in one match...I like Krajicek , Stich a lot as grass court players , even Wayne Ferrera ...
but all the past great tennis players have already said that KING FEDERER is the BEST ...
so, y should we guys argue , when we have never touched a racquet..

Hi Asif,
Maybe u r right. But accept that Federer is the alltime best player. In todays era only Nadal can touch his records. In todays era there r also many good and talented players like Safin,Roddick and Hewitt. But they r the most inconsistent player.Safin is the most talented player after Federer even as par with him(all the gr8 tennis players said this) but after picking injury after winning the Australian Open by beating federer he is the most inconsistent player now.So like Sampras era there r many inform players like Sampras,Agassi,Rafter,Chang,Ivanisevic,Kafelnikov. But today there r only 2 inform players and thats Nadal and Federer.

I was indeed rise to Occasion contest in own perspective

as far as i noticed, federer looked an ordinary player (rather poorly balanced and almost no reflexes) till the 5th set. Then the sudden surge passed thru his mind to rise at the occassion as the once in lifetime opportunity, thats why he could able to do good in final moments. (No doubt finally that he got that much experience to empower the direction of wind on his favour with his Otherwise, the kind of tennis nadal played (superb reflexes..take notice of those return either coming over net or cross court placement at every corner. Sheer Power game..take notice of his cool powerful returns even at continous rallies and finally his superb stamina to give that edge to his opponet that he never had at least on grass court to give a finally mental broken a champion of 4 times on trembles). What a match he played, the zeal was superb. I liked it (did anyone notice the way he mentally prepared for this match or risen to the occassion can be vouched when at instance ballboy taken the ball that was netted at his side. He called guy to bring back the ball and then racketted away to him. He was simply cool, agresssive at the same time but more importantly maintainig his zeal to rise to the occassion pinching back to perform more than the best and pushed him back always in the game. Simply the best finals being seen in years at wimbeldon (last i recall agassi got this balance of things..but of course with lesser power). It was surely not the 21-25 but lookd like to me 21-35. Lucky Fed

by saf ef on Jul 09, 2007 12:05 AM

& one thing for sure, Ivo Karlovic is the greatest Ace hitter in tennis...no Ivanisevic, Sampras, Lujbicic, Ancic etc...agn anyone wants to argue ??
& the fastest server is out n out Roddick....simply awesome, serving consistently at 240 to 250 in the T-Zone.
