by saf ef on Jul 08, 2007 11:59 PM

Hi ssbmat, u r rt...but y do u comapre Fedex with Sampras...even i felt very sorry when i read an article that he can defeat few of the contemporary players on grass court & also serve n volley players....let me put his record agnst good serve n volley or serve n chip kind of players...
Sampras head-to-head is , Kraijeck 4-6 , Stich 3-4, Federer 0-1, Hewitt 4-5, Leander paes 0-1 , Bruguera 2-4.
he just lost agnst Leander even when he was at his peak form...
FEDERER is the KING.
God would dare NOT to play with FEDEX !!!!

Federer is TRULY an All Time Great
by ssbmat on Jul 08, 2007 11:50 PM  | Hide replies

People make a big deal about the Samprases, Agassis and Macs and Jimbos. But NO ONE has DOMINATED the Grand Slam events single handedly as much as Federer. Since winning Wimbledon in 2003, he has won 11 OUT OF 16 Grand Slam titles conducted thus far!!!!!! Count 3 French's for Rafa, 1 Aust. for Safin and 1 US Open for Roddick as the rest.
And its not as if the rest of the field is bad, no way, players like Nadal, Roddick, Safin, even upcoming players like Gasquet, Djokovic have tremendous game. But Fed rules head-and-shoulders above all. And I am now truly QUESTIONING the worth in trying to win French. He is an All Time Great as it is. I mean, Agassi won 1-Wimbledon and 1-FrenchOpen, for cryin-out-loud??? Thats no domination!!! By contrast, winning Wimbledon straight from 2003-2007, US Open from 2004-2006 now THATS DOMINATION. And in these matters, Federer is FAR ahead of anyone in Tennis history.

all time great NOT possible unless they win all 4 grand slam titles, which only rod laver & agassi has done in recent years. he may be the best grass-court player if he crosses sampras 7 titles.

unless he wins on clay he is NOT the all-time great, agassi was the best all rounder in recent years & sampras on grass.

dont say Sampras on grass...he was a loser agnst my fav Krajicek (4-6) in which 4 were on grass...once Agassi had commented that krajicek would have been the all time best Grass if he had not suffered from injury...
even there were some good grass court players which u might not have heard of like Wayne Ferrera , Jason Stoltenberg, Greg Rusedski ..

ok, since he has won 5 consecutive grass we can accept he is the best all time grass player.

and IF he wins on clay then he will be the greatest player of all time.

on the best womens tennis player, there is no controversy - its steffi graf, martina navratilova cant be considerd as "she" is a man....he he.

Sampras is ousted... since he has not won 5 consecutive, he is not the best in grass... Fed is... Federer will of course eventually at least equal 7 wimbledons... 11/16 grandslams since 2003 wimbledon - think abt that...!! that is the greatest evidence for all round play.. what if fed doesn win french... he has been in the finals twice and once in the semi finals at rolland garros... McEnroe and other legends think he is the all time best... who cares what u say...

Roger Ferder Great!
by krishnan js on Jul 08, 2007 11:41 PM  | Hide replies

Roger federer---GREAT because talented ,smiling, not taking things very seriously, appreciating the opponents whole heartedly, involved in human services wherever possible (Tsumami relief). He is an example of individual as mentioned in "BHAGAVAD GITA".Other people I am impressed with is Andrew flintoff,Adam Gilchrist.

Sachin tendulkar----Talented but not GREAT.

Right comment about Sachin-As one of the main reasons he is not GR8n is -he is never a match winner in crucial matches. Most of the time he has failed when his contribution was required d most .....!!

The problem is with his attitude.Only attitude makes a person GREAT.See he is not even able to accept leadership of the team as he is too much bogged down with his individual performance.

Ya he is too much concerned about his individual performance- But then he has also wholeheartedly accpeted the managements decision and played on 1st,2nd and 3rd down in one days..as per the team needs,...also now age is not on his side and it is natural tht he will not be tht aggressive as he was in teen

nice end

Its nice to see federer win this match. as a fan i expect so much from him that some times its frustrating to see him give away the lead after taking it with some magicals shots. but i am happy he ended it with a win as expected. such a nice gentleman he is, everybody, i think, gets bowled over by his persona itself.
His post match comments shows his humility. he said before 'nadal grabs everything he wants to chase as many slams as possible.'

I am a federer fan bit still I keep wondering why people got bored of Sampras and Williams Sisters when they kept on wnning! federer has has charisma that is in no wat equal to that of Boris Becker but more than that of Williams sisters! The reality of the story is that it is not enough to keep on winning but win the hearsts of the fans too! becker won more fans than Federer but with less titles. Federer won more titles than Becker but with less number of fans. The loser is Sampras with seven titles. I feel sorry for him!!

Nadal missing out on a great Opportunity
by Prakash Shenoy on Jul 08, 2007 11:25 PM  | Hide replies

Though Nadal put up a great fight, he will surely look back at this as a lost opportunity. Though he is young, his athleticism will obviously reduce, down the years, making it more difficult for him to win, since he is not a natural aggressive player like Federer. It is imperative to note that, Nadal will never be regarded as a champion in the same vein as Federer. Two wimbledon final losses are huge & will not be looked upon by Nadal, very fondly.

Absolutely true pal. Nadal will never be known or even appreciated in the same vein as Federer. He can never match the humility n grace of Fedex. Fedex is ice-cool n steely. With a single hand he has a repotire of shots where as Nadal has a 2-handed backhand. Also qworse for federer nadal is a lefty. N that cud make things awkward for Fedex coz it makes shot making diffcult for a right armer n more so if ur a single handed player.
But in all fairness to the spaniard he is a brutual fighter, n though I hate him a lot (coz I love Fedex so much) I really wish him to be a succesor to Fedex. Coz I think of all the players in tennis around now, only Nadal is worthy enough of succesing Federer in 4 yrs time.

you made a good point here about age catching up with Nadal and his athleticism waning but remember that boy is only 21 or 22 so he has quite some time before that actually happens. he is going to be a great competitor in the coming years though it is doubtful whether he can overpower Fedex's sublime skill with raw energy and willpower. Federer looked quite offkey during crucial moments in the 2nd and 4th set but still made it through at the end of the day, just a flash of his brilliance in the final set settled the issue. i think he was lucky too...
