national olympic shame
by rammohan on Aug 30, 2004 11:53 AM

Atleast a dozen bureacrats and atleast a dozen politicians must be held accountable for this most shameful olympic performance and all of them must be sacked immediately and permanently and IT raids must be conducted immediately and thoroughly to asceratain how much public funds they had siphoned off during their tenures. Unless drastic measures are taken india would continue to perform most shamelessly in the olympics. cosmetic surgeries won't help. what is essential is blood transfusion on an emergency basis.

India's performance is a bitter experience and much expected.

First the politicians should be out from this game comitee.

The selection comitee should consist of rep from all states.

The treatment by our officials for dhanraj and malleswari were very bad.

Morever it has been a punjabi dominated team and in future there would be no rep from other states than punjabis.

KPS Gil is a fool and kalmadi is a cunning fellow in the comitee.

Only god can save india..

India's olympic trimph.
by Maruthakumar on Aug 30, 2004 11:49 AM

Indians have proved yet again. They don't have two standards. they have only one thing to tell. olympic after olympic.

Even ethiopia can bring home more medals than india.

Poverty sticken countries perform well enough and we have ..we have.. all to it.

China has come from where ? Japan ?

Well... if 1 in our 1000 indian can win a medal in olympics., think of how many medals can india bring home.

Degenerated, Pooor coaching., political intervention, and nothing called one'ness has brought us this honour. Even now, if we start preparing from today for next olympics, we can win, more golds and silvers than most countries..!!

Sports lovers have to be sports lovers.. 15 years back we had this same word.. in next 15 years we would be better medal tally. again past that 15 years we say the same old thing.

All those officials who travelled should submit a proper report. if they utilized government money.

All those who played olympics should start practice from today and stop not still they get their medal next olympics.. !!!

India's future plan for olympic
by I.Sashi Pongen on Aug 30, 2004 11:44 AM

Every time story about indian olympic is same.narroly missed the medal, underperformance etc.etc.but nobody try to do any tangible efforts. No change of policy, plan and imcumbency.Nobody was made accountable.no introspection.i hope after few weeks we will forget about olympic preparation, and realise its importance only in 2007 about 2008 Beijing olympic.that time it'll be too late.we'll send our contingent to represent India, to tell the world that there is a country call India in this universe.they'll come back empty handed.from now onwards, we should prepare for next olympic.if china/korea/thailand could perform in olympic,Mongolians of North East India could do the same.why not shift the focus in those areas.for the last 50 years, north, south and west could fail to deliver. Is Hon'ble Minister of Sports Mr.Sunil Dutt listening.

Horrendous Performance!
by Prabal on Aug 30, 2004 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

Govenrment control is reposible for India's poor performance also the dominance of Punjabis in terms of officials have come to haunt the Indian OCntingent - this may be due to the fact that a premier sports institute is in Punjabi.

Sikhs and other Punjabis worngly think that beacuse they are tall and well built they are stronger that sportspersons from other regions. They have fallen flat in Athens from wrestling to shooting. They Govt must ensure that Punjabi officials are kicked out of the sports arena and that other regions are given equal recognisition. Also the Govt. must handover the reigns of training to non-partisan institutions like the Army and the NAvy and to the private sector. For instance Reliance can adopt a particualar sports and TATA can do the same. I think this strategy will give a fillip to the Indian sports!

the issue is to ensure fair selection of players and coaches and provision of facilities to them.the country and govt. have to think how best this can be done.there is abundant talent needing nurturing.jug

I think the writer of the comment is ignoring the fact that Punjabi's are indeed the best in sports. His views and words clearly reflect a sence of Jealous against Punjabis. I think we should concentrate on increasing our performance instead of leg pulling. The fact that there are only two sports universities in India, and the best one is in Punjab, takes Punjabi way ahead in sports. I think government should concentrate on opening such universities in other states.

And the narrow thinking of people like this is going to take us no where but will demoralize the players. From name I can guess that writer is a Bengali and everybody in country knows that what Bengalis are good for except to waive Red flag wherever they go!

Athens India's Best & worst
by K R Anandagopalan on Aug 30, 2004 11:04 AM

Forget bad performances at Athens. Have the concerned authoriries and the sports persons learnt lessons from the outcome of the just ended Olympics 2004? Let them not hang their shoes, gloves and kits only to dust them off closer to Beijing 2008. Come back pick up from where they left at Athens and work for 2008. Authorities must use the present losers experiences if they cannot participate in the next olympics (not to throw them out of field) to train fresh competitors in the respective field and those who can participate should work and be fit for the next olympics in terms of health and target by 2007 itself. Government should revamp the management of the Indian Olympics Organisation and remove all the polically linked men and put only those who know sports and actively involved in sports. It must increase the spening on identifying and grooming good competitors for the next olympics instead of spending on current poor losers. After four years the current poor losers will be aged and the pressure will be more on them as they may not be able to participate in 2012.

Regards

India is indeed a great Nation... So India should put all its sincere efforts for the succes of sportmen and women and should "awake" in 2008 at Pekin!

olympics
by chidambaran on Aug 30, 2004 10:18 AM

If we started preparations immediately for 2008 olympics; atleast we can hope some medals in shooting, longjump, tennis, etc.

Otherwise, the result of 2008 will be same as 2004
(sometimes it may worst also).

On any account, politics & corruptions will not come
while selecting the candidate.
