It doesnt come as a surprise to any Indian about the kind of performance we have showed at the Olympics. We did our best. Of course, India is the second most populated country. That does not mean we keep winning all golds or at least some medal in every event.
It should be noted that in most of the less populated Countries there are lots of private clubs that offer high quality training with the most modern equipment. We do not possess such training facilities in India. The other less populated countries are much richer than India to invest such huge sums of money into sophisticated training.
As we all know Indian children are nourished mostly into studies irrespective of their interests. That is one of the reasons the most populated country cannot produce the best athletes but sure can produce high quality skilled labor that drive the economy of the most developed nations that win most number of medals.
WE DID OUR BEST. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO TOOK PART IN THE OLYMPICS. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME.

Your comment is an invitation to mediocrity. China has the same standard of living as India, and it is in the top three countries.
Unfortunately, this is the truth ! This big populated nation unable to stand out in big events just shows how behind India is in sports. We may enjoy our Cricket (even that rarely these days), but in real Sports, We are really not in contention. And all because of the Government which has neever seen Sports as a major area of improvement. Sports is the heart of the world, and India is no where in the limelight in this field. Even in Hockey, we are now lackluctre. Sad but true, India must do something quickly. The world is watching and laughing on us...
