What about the lakes?
by Thing on Sep 13, 2016 10:17 AM  | Hide replies

It is clear that no-one is interested in solving the dispute anymore. They want to continue exploiting the river to its grave. A city like Bengaluru had thousands of lakes which could be harnessed to reduce the dependency on Cauvery. But instead many of them have been filled up, encroached or handed over to big builders. Rest are in various stages of decay like Cauvery itself. No one has guts to take up this issue. Instead they will agitate over Cauvery and use as soft target to further their politics.

by Hanumantharao on Sep 13, 2016 09:52 AM

Only solution to the existing water problems. interlinking all river across all over india will be solution.
Sonia govt cancelled interlinking river project & saved croes of rupees. in 2008 same croes of Rs given as a subsidy to the farmers.
this will be the indias biggest blunder.

Switch from paddy and save water
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Sep 13, 2016 09:43 AM

Hard facts and successive monsoon failures indicate that the Cauvery water volumes are far below what is needed by both states. There is simply not enough water to go around, and the Tribunal's figure of 705 tmcft total availability is pure fiction. The only real way out in this is for both states to reduce the areas under paddy drastically and switch to millets , which require much less water. The people in both states need to get out of their rice addiction and use foxtail or little millets instead. These are better than rice for health and can be eaten with the usual rasam , sambar or curds. Persisting with paddy is a recipe for disaster..Karnataka may also have to reduce the areas under sugarcane. TN has to educate their farmers and the common man to move away from paddy cultivation.

River Belongs to India not Center. How Dr. B. R Ambedkar has made mistake in Cauvery? By indulging in such kind of dispute, a foundation of India's federalism is at stake
