Scholarships

Only following people should be eligible for scholarships: 1) Meritorious students irrespective of their caste, 2) Handicaps, 3) Family members of security personnel and martyrs(defense, policemen and other agencies).
Similarly, reservations should only be given to handicaps and family members of servicemen.

There should be a parallel system for upbringing and support of socially and financially backward people so that they don't have to suffer because of their social or financial status, instead of given them reservation in competitive exams.

Most shameful!

It is most shameful to see only a paltry 0.7% "with merit" who by the way are really the ones worthy to receive a "MERIT-based" scholarship who do! I wonder how long this lopsided view to competency development will continue?

Reservation

Great need to either change the system of reservation only to BPL class or if it is on caste based, then it should be only to needy and deprived one. Today all positions are snatched by sons and grandsons of earlier benefitted class, as such needy do not get it.

very true Anurag...at the same time whatever the proportion among the beneficiaries total reservation should not exceed more than 10%. for higher education and service apart from Group D & clerical cadre...for defense personnel and girls as well there should not be any reservation

Very true. Reservation system should be restricted for first level generation ONLY. Full financial support should be there but no compromise on merit. Look at so many cases where SC/STs leave the country never to return back after taking all the benefits from Indian govt. See the Khobragade case - she has got US citizenship for her kids without even informing India govt.

Reservation is good but need so many filters.

In rural areas you will see the actual status of SC/ST and OBC. But in Urban areas it is not fruit full to give reservation based on caste and community, it should be according to financial status.
