Hello Naved Mian,
karnataka used to be very good for women but in recent times rapes have risen here too. A recent shameful even covered by media is the rape of a minor in Hubli. Other such shameful events have been the rape and murder of a BPO employee by her cab driver and molestation of a female student in the premises of Bangalore University. Ofcourse, the crimes against women are relatively low in Karnataka but more efforts are needed to eradicate them.

Rapes in Gujarat have gone up by 7% from last year and has been increasing for last so many years. Most of this reports are of no use as most of the rape cases in North India does not even get reported. A women will suffer more in states like MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP and Bihar if she reports a rape case. And so many unfortunate women does not even report the rape case.

Coimbatore people united without caste, creed, political party etc. some days before against child abduction and crime. If followed Coimbatore example, these kind of crimes can be controlled to a greater level.

Map can misleading
by Trivector -Rediff on Jun 06, 2014 05:28 PM  | Hide replies

I think the no's mentioned is the no. of cases registered by Police, in many cases the police do not register the cases just to show lower crime rate.

Yes, this is an important point to consider. The UP police indeed refused to register FIR in the recent shameful gang rape and murder case.

How to read a map
by sunshine times on Jun 06, 2014 04:56 PM  | Hide replies

The map shows the number of rapes per million population. That does'nt mean if the color of your state is on the lighter side, it's safe. A state like Goa can have a high rate because of it's population being low. What I mean is that the number of rapes is increasing so also is the population of India. Practically no place in India is safe for women.
Shrude punishment to the guilty has to be declared by the court so that atleast there is a fear before any one thinks of doing this sinful crime. Jai Bharat.

Agree that though the paleness of the color may seem like a less risky territory , it needs to be contextualized as a ratio to the state's population.

Finally, Rape is rape. For that 1 person in a million population, it's the worst physical and psycological tortue. Rape has to come to an end. Let's paint India white my friend.
