Within the framework of winning beauty contest, winning in America by a woman of Indian origin is an achievement, both for her and the American society.
But sitting here and getting excited about every pat on the back by Americans does not make sense. We should become aware of our strong points and weak ones and do the best what we can do to improve our country.
Even if one of Indian citizens gets some recognition, we have to take it as a compliment and move on.
I am not able to understand why this exaggerated hoopla over this Indo-American's win of Miss America 2013. Some of the Indians here are celebrating as if an Indian has become Miss World 2013, and in the midst of this hoopla,we have forgotten our own Miss India who will be representing our country in the event. There can not be a better example of slave mentality and white foot licking.

Agreed. White foot/skin loving and slave mentality are two sides of coin of INDIANs. and one thing more...Miss Nina could not have been say even Miss Hyderabad,because of her color. Crooked color mongers...

She is a american first and as amwrican as anyone in USA , (being born and lived fully only in USA) and the credit for her winning goes to the US society .As regards racial/hate remarks, these are commonplace everywhere (even within india).It has much improved and better than before due to modern thoughts but it will take the human race many ages to be 100% matured and well balanced in this aspect.

Put downs and looking down upon with a ... "YOU TOO ARE HERE? MY GOODNESS! HOW ON EARTH DID THIS HAPPEN?" ... is an Indian thing ... when one Indian sees another Indian in the US of A. I have till date NOT seen or felt ANY discrimination or felt being stared at nastily with lewd glances from any person of either American descent/origin. Indians treat other Indians abusively. Real Americans are NOT discriminating at all.

well dont get carried away thinking they are good. they(indians) suffer racism there(us) but after coming back to india they show themselves as great personalities! remember an average true indian is honest and does not have much money to send their kids in USA. it is the corrupt politicians and cunning businessmen' blood that represent what you say "american indian". the bright indians you see are people who will ditch their own old parents as they did to their country - studied here in government subsidy and when it comes to pay it off they have their pissing tools ready! dont take them as an image of indian. one more thing to say.... all the problems that the americans face is because they still haven't been able to brush off their British genes. it may sound harsh but think on it.
