ATM security
by Telveer on Nov 21, 2013 02:21 AM  | Hide replies

If a security guard can not be provided at the location, the room containing the ATM be designed to allow only one person at a time after a valid card is swiped. Un-guarded ATMs should only operate from 9AM to 5PM on working days. The rolling shutter should be locked in open position when it is opened and only an authorized person should be able to close it. A dedicated phone line and/or an emergency button should be provided in such locations in case of emergency.

Insurance
by balasubramanian ramaswamy on Nov 20, 2013 09:43 PM

Insurance Companies should refuse insurance of cash at ATM to Banks where security guards are not posted round the clock. Security cost is high. So banks do not employ security guards and their cash is safe by taking insurance policy. So insurance company should not accept such policies unless banks engage security guard at ATM kiosk.

attack in the ATM, BANGALORE
by CHALUVARANGAIAH D on Nov 20, 2013 09:39 PM

ONCE ONE PERSON ENTERS ATM, THERE SHOULD BE A PROVISION TO BOLT THE GLASS DOOR FROM INSIDE, SO THAT THE NEXT PERSON OR ANY CRIMINAL CAN ENTER ONLY AFTER THE FIRST PERSON INSIDE COMES OUT. THIS WILL HARDLY COST LESS THAN RS. 100/- TO THE BANK AUTHORITY PER ATM AND HENCE THE UNION GOVT OF INDIA SHOULD ORDER ALL THE BANKS TO PROVIDE BOLTING FACILITY IMMEDIATELY.THIS , AS I HAVE OBSERVED, THOUGH THERE ARE RULES THAT THE SECOND PERSON SHOULD STAND AT A DISTANCE, MANY A TIME 2-3 PERSONS ENTER AS IF UNAWARE OF RULES.

bangalore police
by balan r on Nov 20, 2013 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

Less said the better about Bengaluru Police. Most of the police would have heard the dramatist dialogues of Master Herenya. No doubt, they have made his utterances correct. Even after giving the IMEI number of my mobile handset last July, I am yet to get a courtesy reply from police though I have visited them more than ten times and the standing reply, the person is posted on special duty of minister. When they can find the lost mobile handset, what use in lodging complaint and getting an acknowledgement (ofvcourse you have to take care of the Writer) for you to get a duplice SIM which is made mandatory by the service providers. Whether they are prompt in solving the cases or not, they are very very prompt in collecting their daily hafta from foot path vendors, shops, markets, etc., which approx. run to around a crore daily. This is their prime work followed by taking care of their seniors, politicians and if time permits, they remember to serve the people.
So let us not keep our hope on police which is futile. I am only afraid that, to save their face and grace, they should not pick up someone sleeping on footpath during midnight and force him to confess to the crime.

parks in bangalore? Where are they? Most of Parks and water tanks have been encroached by politicians and land mafia with the connivance of Corporation or BDA and Namma Swarna Bengaluru is just a concrete jungle. I am only happy that, KRS is not encroached till now.

Why go to parks at late evening and stay till late night. Instead, get in to few theatres meant only for people like you in some busy localities in bengaluru which is more safe than parks and where you are free to do anything and everything. Try next time.

to prevent such incidents
by balan r on Nov 20, 2013 08:34 PM  | Hide replies

To prevent such incidents in future, all ATM doors should automatically lock once the person enters and should automatically open once the transaction in the ATM is completed. Further, the Security should be made accountable and responsible to maintain a register wherein, the person entering the ATM, should first, write his name, place of his stay, name of his bank and mobile number without which, he should not be allowed to enter the ATM.
This might seem eccentric but Indians have to be treated like this only. They love to be ruled only by stringent laws.

Most ATM doors are desgined that way, you can notice that when the ATM is new. We have to insert the card fot the door to open and then press a switch from the inside to come out. Sadly this works only for few weeks or months after the ATM is installed.

Sorry gentleman. I have never visited a ATM till date and I am happy to say, I even not possess any type of fancy cards to flash in public. I don't envy but only regret when such incidences happen.

banks are the culprits
by balan r on Nov 20, 2013 08:25 PM  | Hide replies

Most of the banks force their customers to use ATM to withdraw cash and even some go to the extent of denying cash at their counter when withdrawal cheque is presented. My bank is one such. Going to ATM should not be a regular practice and should be done only during emergency. But it has become fashion for people to flash credit/debit cards at Malls and hospitals even for a very small amount (of course many does not have sufficient balance and cut a sorry figure) and to stand in long queues before ATM on holidays and during evening hours on week days. Many frequent ATM in their locality as hobby which is being watched by people like the one in the news and make it when the drawer is alone.
Further, in many of the ATM booths, there is no security at all and even if so, he is busy gossiping or reading some news paper. Though not more than one person is allowed inside the ATM for withdrawal of cash, this is glaringly flouted. Most of the people after receiving the cash, do not count it inside the ATM but remember to count only outside the ATM.

More technology development, more risk in life. Frequenting ATM should not be forced by bank which the RBI has to strictly advice the banks.

Sad that you view it this way. If tomorrow (why tomorrow....it's happening everyday)...elders are attacked at home, you'd say elders should not be at home?? Driving bike causes accident - so walk instead??

Don't blame victim or technology....when the sole blame lays on the criminal.

such things will continue..
by Sangram Parida on Nov 20, 2013 07:17 PM  | Hide replies

to happen unless we stop taking all things to be granted. We should be more careful and more vigilant. Crimes are increasing becuase criminals know that very few people will protest or rather nobody will fight against them. They know the weak laws of our land. They know that people around them are selfish and they won't spare time and energy to enquire about what is going around. We are all becoming self centred to be honest and we are hardly concerned about others. We wont stop if there is an accident or murder because who wants to get tangled in the police case. And we know how our police behaves with common man. We are satisfied with the action hero fighting the villains in films but when something happens in front of us we tend to escape. There is the judiciary where judges are involved in exploiting their students. So what more can you expect from our Judiciary.
This is high time we should think something seriously or else our beautiful country will become Pakistan or Taliban one day

It is not a case of simply not going to guardless ATM counters. The lady could have been attacked after she had come out of ATM counter,or before or after reaching home.It is the failure of the law & order maintaining machinery. What is the use of having CCTV coverage when the culprit is still at large & see the boldness of the culprit to carry out the crime despite having the CCTV since he knows the weakness of the law.

That ATM never has a security guard as I have seen it. It is at the centre of Bangalore, within 100 mts of the Women Police Station too. What an irony

even if he is present, what can he do? Can he fire at him? Who are the people who sit as Security? Are they well trained to handle any situation like this? Most are well aged and join the security job only to make money sitting idle. These are private securities employed by sundries who does not have any knowledge about security and duty during emergency. Its a big racket running in to few hundred crores. People get carried away by fancy names like Night Hawk, Night Vision, etc.
Even if security is available he is just a dummy.
