Rape and Patriarchy
by ayanthikizhakel alexander on Apr 26, 2013 12:26 PM

The system of patriarchy is to protect women and not to abuse them. Evil men commit rape and they are extremely rare. Most of the atrocities against women are committed by women and not by men. In the name of rape it seems that anybody can abuse men. Law on rape should be gender neutral.

The Kavita Krishnan is of the view that Rape is a patirachial phenomenon which most of the upper cast societies in India follow. However, the Lower casts, Tribals, Adivasis and most of Kerala communities with the sole exception of upper cast Brahmins(Namboodiris) follow Matriarchial system. Does that imply that in these societies, rape do not happen.
So, Rape has nothing to do with societal systems,or exhibition of crude form of male power, its all about criminal propensities in human being, driven by Hormone imbalances triggered by pathalogical disturbances.

Its medically well documented that Hormonal imbalances that often occur in some ladies brings about strange behaviour for few days just before mensturation.

In one way Kavitaji are right. the criminal attitude, harmone imbalances triggered by pathalogical disturbances do happen in case of females also but how many of them go raping. and what you explain about the gang rapes? do all of them suddenly get triggered one by one due to pathalogical disturbances to commit the activity? no this is patriarchial attitude to prove the strength over the victim. we ourself need to treat the woman of our house equally and stop unnecessary pampering of the male child. the male child grown with utmost importance in front of his female sibling is start of that patriarchial attitude which he develops with age and feels insulted if ignored or unnoticed his presence.

But many often Rape Law is misused in Indian Judiciary
by Abhijoy Mitra on Apr 26, 2013 12:10 PM

I hate to say it but our Govt. and Gender

bias law also made several misuse of the

law relating with "Rape". What about in

case of cohabiting, sex on consent between

2 adult ones been treated as Rape that is

totally a legal blunder and man is only

scapegoat here.Rape is a heinous crime

but our law system several times misuses

it in name of the men-women

relationships and it almost seems that

the law & judiciary is too much blind

enough to forget the "R" concet of Rape

as per Law.Several times as per news

report we studied about any woman

entering deliberately with having

physical relationship with a married

person too but using law to fame Rape

charges. How strange and insane is our law

in name of empowering women but on the

other hand claims all are equal before

law.Thats one more reason why gender

nuetral Rape Law will never be active

ever in India as in West though our

honorable Govt. earlier mske big talks over
the issue as we all read in news columns
friends..

FEAR FACTOR
by Raja on Apr 26, 2013 11:51 AM  | Hide replies

Unless there is a fear factor in the minds of culprits we cannot eradicate this problem. let the punishment be made public and unless people get to witness the harsh punishment through their own eyes there wont be fear and let the ppl be humiliated in public view ....any person commiting rape in a area must be embarrased in public and that will instill the fear and then culprits wont dare to do such act

IF CULPRITS ARE EMBARRASSED IN PUBLIC AND IF HE HAS THE CONSCIENCE HE MAY FEAR BUT THE CULPRITS WITH ZERO CONSCIENCE CAN DEVELOP THE ANGER FOR THIS EMBARRASSMENT AND MAY FIND OPPORTUNITY TO DO FURTHER CRIME. THESE CULPRITS SHALL BE SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT WITH PUBLIC HUMILIATIONS. ACTUALLY CULPRITS ACT IS NOWHERE TO BE RELATED TO HIS RELATIVES BUT HIS RELATIVES TO BE CONSIDERED IN THE HUMILIATION CAMPAIGNE AGAINST HIM. THIS WILL MAKE HIM SHATTERED TO KNOW THAT HIS DEAR ONES ARE NOT WITH HIM FOR THIS ACT WHICH IS TOTALLY UNHUMAN. THE PUNISHMENT WILL BE ONLY THEN IF HE REALISES HIS CRIME AND ITS IMPACT NOT ONLY TO THE VICTIM BUT ACTUAL TO HIM AS CULPRIT. THE IMPACT OF PUNISHMENT WILL BE LONG RUN IF HE WILL KEPT HU MILIATED LIFE LONG.... THE LIFE SENTENCE IS QUICKEST IMPACT BUT FOR THE SOCIETY THIS WILL BE NEWS OF THE DAY AND THE IMPACT WILL BE SHORT TIME...
