Let us now say that the husband commits a crime and is serving a sentence for the same. Should the wife also share half of the same sentence? Why just wealth, let everything be shared equally. I don't think that the government has any right to dictate the laws of a relationship between husband and wife. Result a prolonged court battle with two lawyers greatly benefiting but a family destroyed forever. This is already happening in India. Laws will never solve issues. Mediation involving elderly experienced people from both sides can solve 95% domestic issues but lawyers and lawyer-turned politicians will not agree.
