Railways are our national property. They should run on profits to give us quality service. They are serving us and will be serving our children and grandchildren. Is it fair to expect the railways to sell tickets at the same price as was ten years ago? Anybody will accept ten years back salary? Anybody will sell his product at ten years back price? Let us not please kill our public instituations like Railways,Oil refineris, banks, LIC etc.

You have not being paying attention. The debate in Parliament is about whether to increase fares which are currently very low. A rail journey costs one third to one fourth the price of a Bus Ticket. Private players will obviously not run the Railways as a Charity. That is the prime argument against privatization

Dinesh is playing dirtiest politics by conspiring with congress! and in order to bring out railway from ICU shud poor public be made to pay for their corruption and inefficiency?
ask these congress/MMS sponsored union wala if they are ready to give up their free tickets which railway give to them?
Dinesh could have withdrawn this perk of railway employees if he is really for bringing railways out of ICU

the point is, already when poorest of poor are paying exhoorbitant prices for their daily consumption, are we willing to bear this hike is the question..for bloggers like u and me, any hike in railway fare or essential commodities will not hurt us as we are handsomely paid and working in AC buildings..imagine the plight of the BPLs..and mamta should have been consistent in raising her voice against hikes like petrol, food, vegetables etc...

Cynical people say that politics is the art of the possible. This is a short-sighted view. Politics is the art of serving the people with a soft heart and a hard head. Unfortunately, many of our politicians are now soft-headed and hard-hearted. Their only concern is to stay in power.
Railways are not the personal property of a person or party - this is exactly the argument used by vandals and you will find Railway Property vandalized everywhere
Indian Railway is a public transport service. It need not be a largwe profit earning ( Cash Cow) in a government portfolio. The cost of repair & maintenance & new projects should be provided from government coffer. I think Madam Manta Banergee has right view. However, the object could have been achived without changing the minister

Government coffers are not manna from heaven. The money comes from the pockets of the poor, the disposessed and the marginalised, many of whom will never ride in a train,
Some day, we will have to pay the price for populism. The mighty Soviet Union was run on the lines suggested by you. It could not even feed its own people for the seventy years that the Communists were in power. Ultimately, it went bankrupt.
trivedi is a pawn in the hand of congress which is angry that TMC is not letting cong grow in bengal. cong is geting blamed for inflation. so they want to put blame of rail ticket increase on Mamatas party.
