It is not all nuc power plants are unsafe. If you have to go by udaykumar report, there were substandard materials and stuff like that were used, that violated safety. my understading is, it is about the quality of the power plant.

Church Needs Causes That Will Bring Them Foreign Funds
by Sangita Menon on Nov 10, 2011 10:31 PM  | Hide replies

Church of South India was the biggest supporter of Dravidian Movement, and it was the Church that invented the philosophy that 'brahminism' is bad for Hinduism and Tamil people. And the Dravidian leaders created paranoia around this 'brahminism' and reaped rich political dividends. Dravidian leaders borrowed heavily from the hindu- bashing literature of reverend evangelists who called themselves as 'Pundits' and 'Shastris'.

Then the Church started sensing opportunties in Eelam. Here was a chance for Church to own a country. It was the Church that heavily funded and kept the LTTE going. It's a well-known secret that the Churches in France, Canada and US used to seek donations to support LTTE's armed struggles.

Now the LTTE has been wiped out and the remittances have started dwindling, the Church finds itself under-employed and 'impoverished'. They need a bogey to raise funds from rich westerners. And this anti-Nuclear agitation has come in handy.

As long as the Church is involved, the resolution will be difficult, since the Government would not like to be branded as anti-minority. Also, you should remember who is in charge of the ruling party.

agree with ur comments on activities of church...except the on eon brahminism. the fact that the vast majority of hindus suffered at the hands of upper castes cannot be wished away...even now we have those who use caste suffixed names....!caste system ruined the life of millions...and church was not responsible fr that....

Kalam's words or assurance is not all...

Please do not blindly believe Kalam just because he is a great person with lot of scientific knowledge and ideal vision for India. There were many naivetes like Kalam even during the Indo-China war who never had the foresight or political shrewdness to envisage the design of the cunning chinese.

I don't think radiation leak will happen just like that because I think we are responsible enough to atleast ensure safety of the plant on that matter..But definitely China bombing that plant (which may be possible because our crooked politicians are not intelligent enough to understand that security of our country is important and therefore defence capabilities should be advanced) or a Tsunami happening and the plant getting damaged to it is definitely possible. I don't think the Russians or the Indian scientists (passed out through quotas and fake certificates) are knowledgeable enough or have enough foresight to design the plant in such a way as to withstand even a Tsunami or even an earthquake. I am sure they would have not even thought about sabotage.

Cardinal Renato Martino, the Pope's justice minister, told Vatican Radio on 1 August that nuclear power should be considered a useful energy source, criticising countries like Italy which have prohibited the technology on principal. He said nuclear power could be part of a balanced energy mix with other "forms of clean energy".
