We have not had time to grieve
by Mukund R on Nov 08, 2011 03:38 PM  | Hide replies

This is indeed a sad incident. All this I guess is a result of rotten western culture that our youth are imbibing. Flaunting girl friends, sporting skin tight and revealing clothes, late night parties, smoking, boozing and what not. If you are not into any of these, you are ridiculed as old fashioned. It's not for nothing that a set of unwritten rules were followed like the dress code, time to get back home etc. Strangely, everyone wants the police to keep vigil on everything. It is different matter that they don't keep vigil on anything. High school boys and girls who are not even eligible for a driving license are given powerful bikes and cars to go to school. Everyone seems to have a mobile phone these days. It may sound old fashioned, but when these things that you are so fond of rot the society, you shouldn't complain of the stench. Better sense should prevail and the whole generation needs to be brought up with sanskaar. Else, you will have to live with the stench.

Well, moral standards are set for the good of the society and it's not you and I who set it. By the way, they are evolved over ages. If you say that it's your life and you will live the way you like, then good luck.

People with pessimistic and dismissive nature like you are the one who are a stench for our society. Its not true that eve teasing takes place only with people who go to pubs and keep cell phones...neither it means they are low in moral...it can happen to anyone at any point of time..we always read in newspapers about such things happening in broad daylight and can happen to your female family members also who according to you might be very high on moral..People like you dont have the audacity to stand for these things..and 2 guys who have given their lives and somehow generated awakening to root out the useless sections of our society who indulge in eve teasing. If you don't and can't stand up for them then sit back and try not to spread your stench. Thank You

Mukund’s comment are deeply offensive, it is disturbing to know that people with such rotten mindset that blames the victim rather than the perpetrator exit. His observation that “All this I guess is a result of rotten western culture that our youth are imbibing. Flaunting girl friends, sporting skin tight and revealing clothes, late night parties, smoking, boozing and what not.” “Indian culture”, which according to you does not flaunt is not able to prevent the largest number of rape, foeticide or dowry deaths in the world that exist in the Indian villages. FYI, culture is not monolithic, static or defined by geography, race or ethnicity, and its societal awareness, morality and understanding that is the key. To blame any particular culture for crime is absurd, illogical and just foolish.

Argumentative Indian
Re: Re: many cases

Self defense is true only when there is imminent and grave danger to the physical manifestation of the person. A fight over ego problems, or misdemenaours is definitely not self defense.
Even physically attacking someone to defend your property, like is some one is stealing a mangalsutra from a lady's neck, and a scuffle ensues, still the people defending the woman are not doing self defense.

Globally, in liberal democracies laws are lineant to the point of being actually favorable to the habitual Goonda Party.

e.g. An eve teaser will openly tease & insult a woman, causing her anguish. In return the legal punishment maybe a few months in jail in a place like India, and in a place like say Scandinavia / some states in the US, it may just be a 100 hrs of community service.

I personally feel that while people must not take the law into their hands, the laws & their enforcement should also be as it is in places like Texas, Singapore, China etc.

an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind .... its good to stand up... but how you fight issues is also very important....taking law into your hands may not be advisable ...as it may lead to a talibanic society like we see in pak...whoever thinks its right dlivers justice on his own....that way things can go out of hands.

you may feel bad for what happened....but there is no point encouraging fist fights on streets.... there may be other ways to fight eve teasing... community defence and awareness is key... no NGO does such work..they all come when some candle vigil is announced

even now some ppl are faulting keenan and reuben for being out with 'girlfriend' at 10pm apparently which was the root cause of the issue and not the drunk goonda..

I t is not faulting with those brave fellows, since they acted just on their conscious... but we should have little awareness about our society which we are living..it is just practical...after all it is not a open society like in US or other Euro countries.
With the knowledge dat a train will knock down if we r on rail, still we facing train on rail it is not bravery, but sheer blunder...

India should introduce punishment for multiple counts
by raja sen on Nov 08, 2011 03:21 PM

India should introduce punishment for multiple counts of offence. Right now whatever is the maximum punishment of all offenses that is only given but it should be addition of all offences.

Like in this case, the culprits should be punished for : Murder eve teasing Disturbing public Harmony Insulting the modesty of women etc etc.. it should be addition of all those offenses

Guys it is wake up call we should ask for stringent laws and punishment whoever is guilty.. and justice should come out in 3 months.. why cases are pending because Lawyers make money in delaying the procedings.. it is their fixed deposit type of income which needs to be discouraged.

Before blaming police, judiciary, lawyers or politicians, put yourself in their position. In India we think in terms of caste, religion, language or region while taking a stand rather than justice. A police officer is a Hindu, from south, belonging to a backward community and speaking a particular language first and an Indian in the last. The police does not act because the culprit is related to him or his religion or region. Yes. we need to wake up but in a different way. We need to shed all these parochial feelings and attitudes and rise above casteism, religious fanaticism, regionalism etc. only then we may hope for a just and peaceful society. Wake up .....
