Great respect for our son of the soil.
Great respect for his contribution to Indian's advancement in space science
Great respect for his difference made at the nations first citizen chair

And we should also have faith in his words.
But if he became a active Prime Minister (not like MMS) (or) Chair person of ruling coalation
we can be sure that he will ensure the safety and security of 7 crore tamilians

Till then a Scientist is a scientist and a ruler is a ruler

Nuclear Plant is extremly dangerous
by premshanker gupta on Nov 07, 2011 12:45 PM  | Hide replies

I humbly ask, were the Nuclear Plants at Japan, Russia etc., were not safe enough?
And what is the guarantee that Nuclear Plants being set up in India will not go faulty/explode as happened elsewhere particuarly in view of our naked experiences of fake and inferior quality imports in our country in the past - like fake bullet proof jackets, rotten wheat etc.? And when there are much safer alternatives of power generation, why obstinate insistance on most dangerous nuke-power? Why the lives and health of people are relegated to secondry importance?

Lots and lots of money, zero transparency, no accountability- that sums up the insistence on nuclear energy.

VERY, VERY IMPROPER! KALAM IS NOT THE MOST QUALIFIED ONE ON THIS
by Kabeer on Nov 07, 2011 12:32 PM  | Hide replies

It is very puzzling.

In the first place let all Indians know that APJ Kalam is not a nuclear scientist; he was and perhaps still is one of the best Missile Engineer/scientist.

Missile engineering has little to do with nuclear science except that the missiles payload is a nuclear device.

For talking on nuclear safety of the project, APJ Kalam is just not qualified enough to talk on. There are more qualified people like Balachandran and others who incidentally may in the end say the same thing as Kalam is saying.

KKNP surely is not as bad as it is portrayed. There are not just national but international elements are at work in these protest.

KKNP is not the Western Europe or the Americas (Canada or USA) sponsored and supported project. It is supported and sponsored by the Russians. Western world has a stone to grind against the Russians.

But here, is Kalam volunteering on his own or on behalf of Govt of India?

Has the Govt of India stooped to such a low level to field a former President of India just because he is a humble Tamil who can convince fellow Tamils just because he happened to be a Missile scientist?

Has Kalam became so senile not to differentiate between politics and his own competence?

There was a time when AEC Chairmanship was hugely debated just because it was given to a Nuclear Engineer M R Srinivasan instead of a Nuclear SCIENTIST of that time Mr.PK Iyengar. It was argued that a Scientist more suitable than an Engineer. Such was the sensitivity.

Good points, Kabeer. But being a scientist, it is easier to understand the potential hazards and safety measures.

The hazards are all known to everyone. What are the potential dangers to the N-plants is something anyone with a little bit of scientific background can grasp. And the safety measures do not require a deep knowledge of n-science. If the potential dangers and the steps to overcome and stop those dangers can be explained in simple terms, a lot of confusion and misinformation can be avoided. Our APJ can do that.

Rajendran- Safety is not the job of scientists it is the job of engineers. An engineer who has experience in such positions will know much more than the Kalams, Kakodkars and so on.

Engineer has to decide, not scientist. Scientists are concerned about theory part, engineers are concerned about actual practice.

engineers are glorified mechanics they should just follow the blue prints that the scientists gave them and stop having opinions of their own
