A good measure
by vivek chaly on Oct 14, 2010 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

The data collected from this project can be used by the government to check illegal immigration from India's borders. Its a fact that the Civil Id works extremely well in all the Gulf countries and encourages a certain amount of discipline among the citizens as all transactions- even deposting money into an account needs a civil id .

you have been bullied. UID can be applied by anyone, even non-citizens as per the draft bill which has not yet gotten parliamentary approval!!! If your politicians want to orchestrate a blast, they can bring people from other countries by using your data to get them UID. After the blast the entire nation will turn against you and you will never a chance to prove your innocence.

The infernal Marxist will always oppose anything good for INDIA.
by Vishnu Sharma on Oct 14, 2010 06:38 AM  | Hide replies

The sordid and infernal Marxist who is the eternal enemy of the INDIAN nation will always oppose any scheme which brings about regulation
and improvement in current demographic measures.

The Marxist does not want India to keep tabs on illegals, terrorist, criminals and human-scum who are a danger to our society.

He wants to give a free hand to these vermin.

Which is why he opposes the UID scheme citing all kinds of idiotic and illogical reasons.

He does not want anyone to benefit from social security policies and he wants the older population to be pension less.

The Marxist will always oppose all measures which are good for India and its people.

For India to progress, the marxist must surely die.

That is the only remedy.

Forget about marxist, i have no party. Think what have you gotten from Indian National Congress party who ruled for over 50years? Now they are asking you to give MORE so that they can serve you better. Are you an I D I O T to believe that? Search google for "Practical risks of Aadhaar/UID project" and learn about the threats.

Hi all
1.UIID is an authentication mechanism with biometrics as it will determine identity with accuracy ,it will eliminate duplicate ration cards and stealing of grains diverted to blackmarket.

2.No Govt of India will not profile citizens this is a false propoganda by some people.

3.All details like banking transactions, insurance etc take place in the provider network and recorded in the provider database.UIID will only store Bio metric info that too in encrypted form in the database.
Only a check yes or no is made gainst the database in most cases 90 percent.

4.After bomb blasts we did not compalin security checks with Xray screening and other checks so why put fear in peoples minds.

5.It will transform India ,and help curb corruption in various govt services provided to the people by Govt of India.

6.Planning commission will have accurate data to determine and plan for Indias future and target schemes for needy in our society.

7.It will reduce bureacracy ,as there will be no excsuse to lie or open the ration shop only for few hours and say there is no more stock, now with UIID we can take a prinout of quantity of grain distributed and quickly bring to the book guilty and replace such people in the system with good people.

8.Iam sure not only will it help India ,but it will be a model for other countries to adopt just like Delhi metro
Thank you very much all of you .

There is no benefit in this UID farce.. all it is going to help is to make politicians aware of their vote banks by caste / religion wise.. All your personal details available for fee.. Since it is a nationwide database..any Sarkari employee in the village can access your personal information....Very easy for enemy hackers to break into Indian systems..as we all already know..paki/chinks already hacked our systems many times..This will go as the PAN no went..pay Rs500..u get new PAN no..Only people who are going to benefit from thios fiasco are illegal immigrants from bangladesh/nepal and terrorists from paki land

Quoting the author..
"That is one reason why many countries including the UK, US and Australia [ Images ] have abandoned national ID cards. Another is the high cost"

Do u know what is the Social Security Number concept In US these days?
In todays worl one way or other, individuals needs to be identified, for the sake of national security. Without national security, there is no chance for individual privacy concerns.

Hi Jyothish
Indias issues and problems and solutions are unique to india ,what Australia ,uk,usa do with their systems does not apply to india in all circumstances.
So we should not compare with AUSTRALIA,UK,USA ETC.
India did NANO CAR(affordable) byitself ,Dr Devi Prasad Shettys Healthcare(affordable and cutting edge healthcare) ,ISRO projects (more societal needs catered for )are all India specific and different from developed countries
Similarly C-DOT too was india specific and ushered in TELECOM revolution .
So please stop scaring people away UIID is India project and will be a model for whole world to follow just like DELHI METRO
stop being jealous .

UID
by jyothish koodalil on Oct 13, 2010 11:09 PM  | Hide replies

The concept of ID is not new in the world.
The UID is a good move in tracking the who, where, when etc as far as the silent trawl of dubious characters are concerned.
Imagine terrorists and other ill wishers against India being tracked. Even if they change names or appearnece, thanks to the biometric identification , GOI can easily find the culprits. If only this versatile system would be complimented by strict biometric scanning at the Airports and other port of entries into India.
This is a right step in the right direction.
There is nothing like privacy issue for a law abiding citizen, yet a law abiding citzen of our country should not be worried about the privacy concerns as they are very unlikely going to be affected by the so called privacy issues.

Hi Jyothish
Privacy issues are catered for.Cost is well within budget and even budget has been reduced ,still project is on time.
Many ,Many NRIS from USA have come back to India and working for free with Technology team at Bangalore ,they are all having more than 10 yrs exp in USA and worked for CISCO,HP,MICROSOFT.
What UK,USA,AUSTRALIA DO IS NOT BEST FOR INDIA.
INDIA SHOULD DO WHAT IS BEST FOR ITS CITIZENS.
UIID WILL HELP THE NEEDY AND ACUTE POOR TO ACCESS THE GOVT SERVICES WITHOUT LEAKAGES AND UIID WILL DO THIS AND MUCH MORE

UID has grave provisions for Massive Misuse.
by senth on Oct 13, 2010 10:52 PM

1. Nobody trusts Government, Babus and Clerks WITH ANYTHING. Why should UID be any different.

2. UID will be used to Profile Individuals and then Harass them. If you don't believe just ask ANY SMALL BUSINESS PERSON - how govt officers and clerks Gang Up to harass you if you dont feed them.

3. Infact its MISUSE has already started - govt has announced it will spend Rs 5000 Crores on attaching CASTE to UID.

This will be great leap forward towards becoming developed country.

UID definitely has number of benefits for country.

It will be easy to map criminals.
It will be easy to map non citizens from citizen.
It will be easy to eliminate black money on further stages..
It will be easy and efficient to distribute benefits to poor.
In next stage reservations will be based on poverty because one can map who is poor and who is not....

But author has point about misuse..
but I am sure as time will pass ,the hurdles will get away. we are not the first country to implement it and will not be the last one..

Senth , I agree this situation could arise , but what will you do after you know one's caste ? Very less.

But think this possibility , there are so many people who claim as MBC / BC / SC /ST something like this , but few of them are super rich and enjoy all the benefits of reservations , now once caste is attached to UID and each transaction is linked to UID , we will be able to find who is really rich or who is backward and then give support accordingly.

This is one of most needed project for india . It should be supported rather than criticised for small small issues.

UID needs to scrapped by the State Govts, will make India Bankrup
by Riv on Oct 13, 2010 07:20 PM  | Hide replies

UID project even though has its own merits for the planning commission, but has greater drawbacks related to privacy and profiling. This gives too much of powers to a key agency or a person. Mr. Nilekani, though he deserves respect for his views of open india, still has connections to the New york based groups and possible connections to CIA which needs to be investigated. I hope state govts will scrap this project in view of their benefit. Thanks to Praful and others who bring out other point of view. Also if UID is good for everyone, regardless of skyrocketing costs and future overheads which will bankrupt the nation..If UID is so good, then all the Super rich and politicians should be first to get the UID instead of poor villagers. What a shame!
