Tharoor best fit for UN
by Narayanan Mahalingam on Mar 09, 2010 04:51 PM  | Hide replies

Tharoor is better of being in UN. His idiosyncracies would matter to none since UN is a toothless organization. Mouthing ideas such as Saudi intervention are disastrous to say the least.
India has enough problems to worry rather than getting into the depths of analyzing tharoor's english.
He has proved that long years at UN has numbed his brain.

First you assert that UN is a toothless organization. Then you declare about Saudi thing and confirm your ignorance.

I would suggest before you air your views on established organizations and people , please verify facts or least try.

Its a very reckless comment to say that his long years at UN number his brain. Whats your understanding of the UN function ? Do not read the half baked press reports and characterising some thing as big as the UN.

What do you work for if I may respectfully ask you ? for the NASA ?

I wonder what kind of jokers come here with trashy wisecracks to throw at public.

a)Hinglish , b)Legendary V.K.Krishna Menon?
by Dattaprasad Prabhu on Mar 09, 2010 04:50 PM  | Hide replies

a)The word "Hinglish" took its place in the annuls of the Indian media bacause of the frequent and unwanted appearance of the cinema stars over the small screen. Except few like 'Big B'or Dev Anand, almost all speak horrible English and unfortunately that has got a greater impact on the emerging young spectators.
Why this E.D.Mathew calls that self-centric, arrogant, adamant, stark audacious (that's why stupid) and the guilty man of 1962, a legendary figure? Just because he was another Mallu? To know VKK in actuality, refer to .... 1) India's China War (Neville Maxwell), 2) The Himallayan Blunder (Brig. J. P. Dalvi), 3) The Untold Story (Left. Gen. B. M. Kaul), 4) From Revelly to Retreat (Thimeiha Mommoirs) by Gen. S. P. P. Thorat. I hope this is sufficient.

I don't think "legendary" here was in reference to his political achievements -- which are shameful. He was legendary for other reaons: Fighting for India withing the British system, setting up Sainik schools, defending India vigorously in the UN, being India's first high commissioner to the UK, co-founding the Penguin-Pelican Books company. He was so reviled by the British that the MI-5 actually tried to bump him off.

Dattaprasad Prabhu, VKK was also a career-diplomat unware of the undercurrents in politics. More than VKK the blame for the 1962 fiasco should go the J L Nehru and TT Krishnamachari, who converted the Ordnance Factories into factories manufacturing household goods for his TTK Group.

Its in our genes guys
by Bhumihaar on Mar 09, 2010 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

Never in India was there a genuine debate on any thing. Never. Be it on public forums or elected forrums.

We always try to win by NUMBERS. Or we argue based on history much of which is doctored by whoever liked. When we do not understand some thing, we bash , shout, vandalize and proclaim victory over the rubble.

Its not the question of Tharoor being liked or some one else disliked or some such crapp. We hate any thing that is impermeable for our own brain. So what do we do ? We shout. Not sure what it is 'but it is dangerous'. So this guy, having spent most of his life outside India, caught off guard for making witty remarks with no ill intention whatsoever.

First the media (with thier half baked IQs) jumps, then the scum from political arena, with them the rest of the scum. Order of the daay. peace.

Some time ago Brinda Karat said 'Not sure what government stand is, but ..(it is dangerous ?)'.

Our midfortune is that we have such low awareness and understanding of our politics. For most people , its word of mouth only. So what you see is what you get as they say.

Very well said. Present MEA team is the BEST in Independent India
by sudip majumder on Mar 09, 2010 04:39 PM  | Hide replies

SM Krishna's legendary sharpness, conviction and courage combined with Tharoor's intellect, smartness and darn brighness with the super foregin secratary or I should say Indian icon Nirupama Rao, India for the first time has the MEA team just with the simply best - any other country would have been extremely proud with these deadly combo of integrity, intellect and smartness. But in India where the media is swamped with 2 pony jokers like Sardesai or Varsha of the world, well it is not hard to imagine what would be the fate of the current MEA. India is very well suited for Yadavas, Pranabs, Patil and Pawar of the world and surely not by the super smart, intelligent and ethical folks like our current MEA team.

"SM Krishna's legendary sharpness" - I do not understand what you mean by this. SMK cannot and did not want to obey the Supreme Court Order when he was CM of Karnataka. That is a contempt of court, he is a petty politision. he does not deserve to hold such high constitutional posts as MEA, but it is politics and he is there. Dont compaire SMK with Mr. Tharoor.

1. SM Krishna - Raised in an orphange run by RK Mission and JUST THINK what he has achieved personally even if you discount his contribution. BTW the Bangalore, the icon of modern tech savvy India - YES was his brainchild and vision. Just compare the CMs after him and you would know it. Congress dumped him to Maha because "corruption" or other name of Indian politics can not touch him.
2. Tharoor - while being a student in Xaviers Kolkata at the age of 21, won the top 10 UN award on writing on diplomacy and international politics. A Phd and two Masters that too from Taft school and if you happen to read any of his books - you would know what I mean.
3. Nirupama rao - Those who remember her as MEA spokeperson during post Kargil time knows as a lone stern intelligent yet very sharp voice aginst the street-smart (but jack ass) Mush. Agin a prolific reader and the topper all along.

My point is simple - these people are excptions and we need more exceptional people in the government else we would be ruled by the jokers, rapist, murderers, looters, mafias and D companies and deadly cocktail of criket-crime-movie nexus. Jai Hind!

(a)Even before he assumed office of MEA, he lobbied for India's position in Security Council as 'Under Secretary General'

(b) He almost single handedly forged support from Syria and Egypt on the Pakistan crisis - as a fallout of Mumbai attacks.

(c) Bilateral trade with Chile - a rich Latin American country which is considered the most tech savvy ( they call India of the south America).
