It appears that many awards(ofcourse not all)are being given based on the personal reasons, to non deserving persons. Giving awards like this(Quantity & Quality both) is not upgrading the persons so much to whom it is being given But really degrading too much the name of the awards.Such type selection must be stopped.BUT the Biggest Question is WHO WILL?
I see people on this forum complaining about prices going up and blaming the government for that.
Let me clear one thing.
Government should not be involved in "Price Controls" or "Price Setting". The intervention of government in the markets actually increases prices.
The role of government is to help with the "supply" of good to the market place.
Here is a very simple example. 50% of our produce rots even before hitting the market place. The reason is bad infrastructure for transportation, collection and storage. The role of government is not to sell rice for Rs.2/Kg. But it is to improve the infrastructure so that we do not spoil 50% of our produce.
We have to let free markets set the price of goods and commodities. Supply and demand.
The role of government is to ensure there is no black marketting, bribery, etc.
I hope we get our "expectations from government" right.

you are thinking in lines of the US. But it is unfortunate that we donot have infra and mechanisms to have equal opportunity in the supply business. Even with high prices farmers get paltry amounts.
The problem is mainly not shortage of supply but the people having no purchasing power to buy it.
Any govt cannot wait for people to be driven by the market (else die of starvation), as majority of Indians dont have purchasing power.
Current inflation of the food prices, i guess is the direct product of a badly managed governance or connivance of govt officials. I am sure many might have made billions by blaming on a poor monsoon.

Srinivas, I would not call US a "Free Market". It is more free compared to India. But it is not the best example of "Free Markets".
We have to have BILATERAL trade relation will countries and then eliminate trade barriers.
There is no need to produce a commodity if we can get it cheaper from some other part of the world. BUT the treaties have to BILATERAL.
Woman Mohan Sign : we’ll not tolerate terrorism in our country. It’ll be dealt with very firmly. If it happens again this year we hire more software and hardware engineers to make CD’s (dossiers) and send this to Pakistan more quickly. We’ll build more pressure on Pakistan to stop the terror attack until next election.
Sharad Powar: Price rise is not in my control it is Mukerji’s job. I’m warning almost everyday that milk, sugar, pulses prices are going to explore but they are sleeping. We need another green revolution and I urge 3000 crores fund release immediately.
Mukerji: We habe bery solid economy and it iz going to grow more than 10 percent this piscal
PC: Terrorists are tired now and they are reluctant to attack India any more. They figure that we have lot of patience and willing sacrifice more lives as long as it is going to fetch us votes.

There are people in this country struggling to meet basic needs. There are villages in this country that do not have running and clean water, that do not have electricity.
Why on earth do we want to waste TAX money on such awards.
If individuals want to give awards, they can do so with their PRIVATE money.

very true. "pay tax karo relax" nahi. "pay tex and let them relax" is right.

Dear Sanjay, This is not a CONG Vs BJP issue. The same was done by the Gujarat govt, UP government, etc when India won the 20-20 world cup. CMs gave away crores or rupees as 'Awards" from the TAX treasury.
What right do they have to give away such goodies when people of this country struggle to make ends meet.
The real question is the "Role & Scope of government".
Once we iron out the above, we will solve 99% of our issues.
