Tainted Men In Olive Green - Today`s Reality !!
by vijay kumar on Dec 28, 2010 09:40 AM

This is certainly not the Army which Gen Cariyappa & Gen Sam commanded at their pinnacle. The hunger for more than they deserve is increasing day by day. Its the self which is coming first always and everytime nowadays putting in shame The Chetwode Credo which once these so called able Generals of the elite Indian Army yelled with pride & honour. The sense of achievement & pride in donning the Olive Green is far gone and in the days to come it would sound more bookish. The feel of the materialistic aura & increase in the daily requirements beyond check is one of the reason for the downfall. `What next` in future is the second and more dangerous because it never end from womb to tomb. The lust for more at any cost has certainly taken the Indian Army to drains. Professionalism is lost with its meaining, which the sooner we realise the better for us. The chosen few or the last heroes ( obviously unsung), somehow still left in this Army is on whose shoulders it is surviving today.
It is seemingly true that the moolah makes the world go around but its certainly the values and discipline which makes it rotate on its axis in 24 hours & revolve around the sun in 264 days & 6 hours.

Where's the honour?
by raman govindan on Dec 19, 2010 05:09 AM

"He describes the insidious disillusionment of idealistic young officers who gradually realise that the values that were catechised during their training are hardly reflected in day-to-day unit life."

What happens in the later years of the career of the officers. They get promotion and the staff officers mainly interface with politicians and businessmen at the center and at important decisuion making levels. they see them in flesh and blood, the screen that separate them from their undoings having been removed, and the powerful, rich and influential lobbyists influencing them in concert, they transform from the idealistic one into a "chalthi kha naam ghadi" type. the national interst gives way to rich picks. the same with officers of IAS, other Central, state services and PSUs and young politicians. very few can survive that sort of pressure stay true to their initial calling.

Yatha rajah, thatha prajah!

PROOF OF THE PUDDING
by Thomas Philip on Dec 17, 2010 12:48 PM  | Hide replies

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.Have the Armed Forces ever failed to deliver when the nation demanded whether it is external threat, internal security threat, natural or man made disasters ?As an institution the Armed Forces have performed their tasks admirably and the drills are so set that tasks given to them will be accomplished in spite of a few bad hats or even poor leadership at times.Generally the men can see through their leaders and a leader who does not live up to their expectations do not survive a crisis.Leadership at the young officers level is considered to be exceptional as has been demonstrated and is being demonstrated at the ground level.Of course we have likes of the 'tomato sauce' Major who faked an encounter in the Glacier. These aberrations had been there even in the past.As regards the Adarsh scam, to be fair to the ex-chiefs,they were eligible to be considered for allotment and the apartments were not exclusively for widows of Kargil martyrs.Surely senior bureaucrats and army officers who had a stake in the project did influence the process of clearance for the project.
There indeed are corrupt ones among the men in uniform. There indeed are several instances of fratricide. But definitely these are not on the rise - these were there earlier but seldom reported. We have a tall leader and incorruptible man in Gen VK Singh and I am sure he will address all these problems during his stint as the Chief.

she is egging and forcing her cong-followers:
- to demonize our famed armed forces, in the media.
- to show our army men, as corrupt, as weaklings, as immoral, as against india.
- to create huge rifts within our armed forces.
- to give 3rd quality, obsolte, non-working, weapons to our army-men,
- to even delay by decades, the supply of the weapons.
