Its all to do with our great values inculcated at home, the family network, the community, neighbourhood, and then the region. All of this is grandly epimotised at the national level. history of scams repeating one after the other like the many festivals we celbrate so joyously.

one momento. What does pointing out shortcomings (read rot) in our once-pride invoking, honorable, disciplined army or supporting that point of view have anything to do with being a "real" or "fake" indian? What is it with your wingers? It does not take much to make you wave your flags

bad deals when I say bad deals let us see the deals

Bofors deal it involved a foreign supplier ,,swedish ,,arms dealers and indian politicians ,,this does not in any way reflect indias armed forces
But it is a loss to Indian people ,,as Indians are 1 billion and many are effected with any shady deals

emaar -mgf is the real estate company from DUBAI ,,that built Villas in Andhra Pradesh state ,,it is involved in corruption with state politicians and avoided paying taxes to state govt

2G Spectrum deal ,,ago the money is routed through tax havens ,,and foreign mobile companies like Etilsat ,,this got arab or pakistani connections ,,and Swan telecoms etc

9.If you see in the wider world ,,the BAE systems paid 10 billion dollars bribe to Saudi prince to secure a Fighter jets deal ,,but in this case the suadi citizens are not that effected by this deal ,,as they are only a few million in population ,,as compared to Indias 1 billion population

10.indians are as honest or dishonest as anyone depending on the issue as anyone else in the world infact ,,given the poverty and inequality I would say Indians are very well behaved and honest people
Imagine Indians getting upset and taking arms or become terrorists ,,that will be a disaster to the world

11.infact whole world should be thankful to India because
Coke and pepsi is sold to Indians
GM cars are sold to indians
OIL from gulf is sold to indians
Beoing aeroplanes and Fighter jets are sold to Indians

indians help arabs build Burj Kahalifas and then buy the apartments there

iAM sure if Indians have not bought apartments in Burj khalifa ,,the next in line is rich oil jars from russia ,,
but no anglosaxons like the Arabs expected have bought any apartments as expected at all

Any armed forces when in conflict do incur allegations
Indian armed forces contribute a lot to UN Peace keeping forces ,,and they do a good job
No armed forces who are involved can come clean ,,as we do not know truth ,,sometimes it is a easy blame game
I think media is trying to blow out of proportion Most indian armed forces can handle very well
As for misappropriations ,,it might happen in procurement of defence supplies through agencies
So we should not come to conclusion ,,about these allegations at all

Sad but true

There is bound to be rising expectations and graft offered from civilian contractors. Its human nature but what starts off as a nobel career somewhere turns sour. I dont blame the corrupt as temptations gets the better of them, any body could become weak with heading a budget like that. But to start what we would offer the whole armed forces is a better pay scale at par with the corporate world or their counter parts in the civil services or even better as they put their lives in line when required. And most important lay a system that makes is near immpossible to accept graft by officers or the minister him self and if caught the punishment should be hard labour at the least for 10 years or even death to deter. And the person exposing the scam to be awarded an amount he could only earn in a life time.

The pay and perks are at par or even better as compared to other govt jobs and central services. But personnel below commissioned officers rank retire early and they definitely need a second career which should supplement their pensions .For officers, a regular officer has now been guaranteed the rank of Colonel with retirement at the age of 54 with a minimum basic pension of Rs 26050/- plus 45% dearness grant(as on date) which is reasonable.A person who joins the Group A services can aspire to rise minimum to the rank of a Joint Secretary or equivalent. In the Armed Forces less than .25 percent of regular officers can be promoted to the rank of Major General(equivalent to Jt Secy). Those who grumble forget that ours is a voluntary armed service and there is no conscription. Moreover, despite the trying circumstances in which they have to serve and the disruptions owing to frequent transfers ,the overall quality of life is good and there are several privileges which the armed forces personnel enjoy which most of them take for granted.

Hi Manoj
Armed procurement happens through Defence ministry and foreign suppliers ,,if they indulge in commissions ,,for example Bofors deal ,,how are Indians armed forces to blame
infact we shouild be proud of them as they put their lives in the line of control

While working as a public sector executive in Shillong I got an order from my MD's wife that I have to procure HAM & Broccoli & deliver 700 miles to Upper Assam for Remembrance day observed along with the Army.
I wondered at that time...Are the great Generals & the MD going to eat exotic Ham & Broccoli while remembering those army men who sacrificed their lives.I refused....but i doubt that they settled for dal chawal.

ROTTON FROM THE CORE!!!
by varghese on Dec 15, 2010 09:36 AM  | Hide replies

99.99% of indians are corrupt to the core..these children are sent for jobs in the army or navy or airforce or say any jobs nation wide..what do u expect from them..even these rotten kids pay money to enter the services..their parents take loans to pay for these jobs..now tell me would these rotton kids do something honest in their life time ...they will stoop to any levels to make back the money they spent to get admission in the armed forces so next time their kids wont have to borrow money from the local bania to get their jobs fixed...this is the way the entire system works in India..the least said about corepathi backward classes and reserved hindu classes in India..for them they get seats reserved free..free jobs..get back fee re-enbursement..everything free including promotions..the only problem is for the Minorities and the non-reserved hindus..these guys have no future in India they are just living on borrowed time..

Corruption in India
by Bob Marley on Dec 15, 2010 08:30 AM  | Hide replies

To understand that you have to understand the Indian psyche.

99% of Indians live in perpetual insecurity. They are brought up in an environment where there is cut throat competition for meager resources and everyone is in a rush either for money, education (entrance to IITs/IIMs), power, fame, love etc.

So people are willing to take shortcuts to achieve their aim. This is the main reason we have so much corruption and selfishness. People want to stash as much money as possible, not because they need it but because of long term insecurity, fears and jealousy.

People can be insecure even in western countries but not as much as India because there even if you dont have money/fame/power you will still have a good life (fabulous infrastructure) and access to benefits (social security, welfare etc., specially in European countries, Sheikdoms).

Indian psyche is s#h#i#t# itself

If Bhaghat singh were alive he would shoot himself at all the BPO industry, American companies (and the brainwashing that comes with them) that have popped up in India
